    Abstract: A pressure regulating device for use with a breathing assistance and/or resuscitation apparatus, which conveys gases along a gases pathway to a patient, includes a mounting for connecting the pressure regulating device to a first outlet in fluid communication with the gases pathway. The mounting holds a valve member that selectively blocks, at least in part, the first outlet. A control member can be manipulated to adjust a property of the valve member. The valve member at least partially blocks the first outlet when the pressure of gases in the pathway is below a selected level, and allows at least a portion of the gases to flow out of the first outlet when the pressure of said gases is above the selected level. The property includes a selected level of pressure whereby manipulation of the control member adjusts the level of pressure between a maximum level and a minimum level.

    Abstract: A portable oxygen concentrator (10) including a reservoir (26) for storing oxygen-enriched gas and a delivery line (41) for delivering the oxygen-enriched gas from the reservoir to a subject. An oxygen delivery valve (36) communicates with the reservoir via the delivery line. A sensor (48) is in communication with gas flowing through the delivery line and generates a signal related to a breathing characteristic of the subject. A controller (21)operates in a first mode wherein the controller opens the oxygen delivery valve for continuous delivery of the gas to the subject and a second mode wherein the controller selectively opens and closes the oxygen delivery valve responsive to the signal of the sensor to deliver the gas in pulsed durations. A relief valve (46) is associated with the delivery line and opens responsive to the pressure within the delivery line exceeding a predetermined threshold so as to decrease pressure within the delivery line.

    Abstract: A breathing apparatus includes a supply tube configured to provide a supply of air. A first and second nasal interface each include a generally spherical member having a respective projection configured to be at least partially received within a respective nasal passage of a user, and are independently movable relative to the housing. A valve is disposed between the fluid chamber and an exhaust passage for selectively allowing air to be exhausted from the fluid chamber via the exhaust passage. A diaphragm, coupled to a bias chamber, is also coupled to the valve for moving the valve between the open position and the closed position. Bias pressure within the bias chamber is regulated, at least in part, by a loading fluid impedance and a venting fluid impedance.
