Abstract:
An eccentric weightlifting machine that includes a first pole connected to a first weight and to a device acted on by a user, a second pole connected to a second weight and to a motor, wherein the motor lifts the second pole in response to movement of the first pole by the user, and a latch configured to latch the first pole to the second pole during an eccentric exercise portion of a weightlift.
Abstract:
Sensing devices including pliable e-textile pressure sensors are used in gloves intended to be worn against a user's hand, or a portion of a user's hand. Additional sensors, such as accelerometer(s), gyroscope(s) and geo-referencing sensor(s), may be incorporated in electronic devices that interface electronically with the pressure sensors and are mounted on or in proximity to a glove when in use. Systems and methods for storing, communicating, processing, analyzing and displaying data collected by sensor components for remote monitoring of conditions at hand surfaces, position and orientation data, movement data, and the like, are also disclosed. Sensors and sensor systems provide substantially real-time feedback relating to current body conditions, orientation and movement, and may provide notifications or alerts to users, coaches, etc., enabling early intervention when conditions indicate intervention is appropriate.
Abstract:
An apparatus for analyzing a golf swing or other biomechanical movement includes first and second rectangular force plate mounted within a respective first and second rigid rectangular frame by means of at least one load cell proximate each corner of each rectangular force plate. The second rigid rectangular frame being secured to the first rigid rectangular frame so as to prevent relative lateral movement therebetween, and each of the load cells is operably connected to one or more microprocessor devices for receiving a signal generated by each of the load cells indicative of a force applied thereto.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for monitoring biometric and/or environmental data of a user are provided. The user monitoring system includes a dental appliance configured to fit substantially inside a mouth of a user, a temperature sensor for measuring user temperature, a pressure sensor for measuring pressure exerted by the user, and a processor for acquiring and processing temperature and pressure data of the user. The user monitoring system may communicate with an observer monitoring system. In some embodiments, the user monitoring system also measures one or more of blood oxygen saturation level, proper placement of the dental appliance, ambient air temperature, light levels and respiration rate.
Abstract:
A sports bat, for example a cricket bat, (100) is provided comprising a handle (115) by which the bat can be held and a playing surface for striking a ball. The playing surface has a plurality of sensors (102) associated therewith for detecting impact upon said playing surface and outputting a signal indicative thereof. The sensors (102) form a network of sensors (102) arranged to divide the playing surface into a plurality of polygonal sensing areas (10B). The sensors (102) are located at the apexes of each polygonal area (108) and have a sensing range that extends at least over the entire polygonal sensing area (108) for which K forms an apex.
Abstract:
A mouth guard comprises a base member configured to fit inside the mouth of a user, and at least one shock-sensing and indicating device coupled to the base member. In one exemplary embodiment, the shock-sensing and indicating device is a passive shock-sensing and indicating device that detects a shock substantially along a selected axis with respect to the base member. In another exemplary embodiment, the at least one shock-sensing and indicating device detects a shock substantially along a plurality of selected axes with respect to the base member, each selected axis being substantially orthogonal from another selected axis. The shock-sensing and indicating devices can be configured to detect different levels of shock. In one exemplary embodiment, the shock-sensing and indicating device comprises a multi-component chemical-reaction system, such as a chemi-luminescent reaction system.
Abstract:
The motion of a golf ball or other projectile is determined as it passes through substantially-parallel fields of view (3, 4, -45, 46; 55, 56) of two line-scan sensors (1, 2; 43, 44; 53, 54) that are spaced apart from one another. The fields of view of the two sensors are each substantially-planar or wedge- shape with respective mid-way planes offset or otherwise from one another, and each sensor responds at successive intervals of time to the angular position of the projectile in its field of view. From the sample measurements of angle, velocity vectors of the projectile and its direction are calculated.
