Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for selectively suppressing advertisements and providing supplementary media content in place of the advertisements. A program (including program segments and supplementary media content) and advertisements are transmitted to a user device on two different channels. A database may be queried to determine whether the advertisement suppression feature is enabled for a particular user. For example, the user of the user device may subscribe to an advertisement suppression service and an enabled status may be stored in the database. If the status is enabled, the program segments and supplementary media content are provided to the user device without advertisements. If the status is disabled, the program segments and advertisements are provided to the user device without the supplementary media content.
Abstract:
A streaming music based video game and device for the generation of the same. The device receives a transmission stream through a cable, satellite, wireless, or other communications system with audiovisual information and game data. The device generates a music based video game from the audiovisual information and game data and provides the audiovisual information and video game information to a display.
Abstract:
A games system, method and program, the system comprising: a control device arranged to be operable by a user; a network interface for receiving data via a packet-based communication network; and a processing apparatus arranged to execute a game application and a communication client; wherein the communication client is programmed to establish video communication via the network interface and packet-based communication network, receive video data from a remote user and decode the video data to produce a live video image; wherein the game application is arranged to divide the live video image into segments, re-order the segments to produce a shuffled live video image and output the shuffled live video image for display on a display unit; and wherein the game application is further arranged to receive control information from the control device and cause a further re-ordering of the segments responsive thereto during the video communication.
Abstract:
Particular embodiments of the disclosed subject matter provide methods and systems to support interactive games on a television via internet protocol. An example embodiment includes receiving a game selection from a remote user through a set-top box via a network, activating the selected game on a games server, and communicating game rendering information to the set-top box via the network thereby enabling remotely playing the selected game via a television monitor and a remote control device.
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to methods and devices as well as handheld stations and computer program products for sending video game content to handheld mobile terminals, comprising broadcasting common video game content to handheld mobile communication terminals via a digital video broadcast handheld channel, to enable said handheld mobile terminals to execute video game applications.
Abstract:
Provided are an apparatus and method for providing an adaptive broadcast service for providing adaptive broadcasting contents including game contents to a user terminal of a home network environment by using game metadata, and an adaptive broadcasting system where a user or a terminal can properly select and consume a game based on the object by defining the metadata for describing the common characteristic of the predetermined contents type including the game and the metadata for describing the characteristic of only the game contents. The apparatus includes: a contents providing unit for publishing and providing the adaptive broadcasting contents including the game contents, and the game metadata to the user terminal; and a contents searching unit for providing contents identification information corresponding to a search and selection signal transmitted from the user terminal, wherein the game metadata describe characteristics of the game contents.
Abstract:
A remote interface network in which multiple remote HID encoder/decoder units share a common physical transport medium for connecting to one or more processing unit encoder/decoders is described. In one embodiment, the physical transport medium includes an optical shared media transport network. Each remote HID encoder/decoder unit can support one or more remote HIDs. The processing unit encoder/decoder can support one or more Pus. The network can be used, for example, in office, hospital, dense seat (e.g., aircraft, bus, etc.) and content provider networks.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods of and systems for providing conditional access to electronic content. Electronic content is provided to a user along with authorization information. The electronic content may be transmitted to the user, and the user may use the authorization information to access the electronic content. An authorization code may be provided to the user such that the user may be granted access to the content based on a comparison of the provided authorization code and a second authorization code transmitted with the electronic content, and transmission of the second authorization code may be controlled by a content provider to control access by the user.

Abstract:
A gaming system is disclosed. The gaming system includes a gaming console, which comprises a processor and a storage medium, and is in connection with a network, a monitor and a sound system, the method. First instruction data are received from an external storage medium read by the gaming console. These instruction data and include one of set-top instruction data for receiving and decoding digital broadcast data and set-top applications when executed on the gaming console, and communication data for use in retrieving via the network the set-top instruction data for receiving and decoding digital broadcast data and set-top applications when executed on the gaming console. The set-top instruction data are executed on the gaming console, and encoded digital broadcast data is received via the network. The received, encoded digital broadcast data are decoded and displayed on the monitor and on the sound system. The gaming system is therefore functioning as a set-top box.
