Abstract:
The invention relates to a process of applying a temporary protective coating to a substrate comprising the steps of: a) providing a laminate comprising i) a flexible carrier substrate and ii) a coating layer prepared by applying by spreading, spraying or flow coating an aqueous coating composition comprising at least one water based film- forming polymer and solid particles of an amino resin based polymer to the flexible carrier substrate, and drying the applied coating composition, and b) transferring the coating from the flexible carrier substrate to a second substrate to provide the second substrate with a temporary protective coating.
Abstract:
Robots (16a, 16b, 16c) are provided near a carrying line (12) which can be controlled by a control unit (18) to be taught operations. A roller mechanism unit (34) including a roller (48) formed from a material which absorbs and stores a protective layer forming material is provided at a distal end portion of the respective robots (16a, 16b, 16c). The protective layer forming material uses as a material therefor an acrylic copolymer agent which functions as a strippable protective layer after dried. The control unit (18) brings the roller (48) into contact with a vehicle (14), records teaching data which are taught to the robots to rotationally move, operates the robots based (16a, 16b, 16c) on the teaching data when a vehicle (14) which is completely painted is carried in, and allows the protective layer forming material to be applied to the vehicle while supplying the protective layer forming material to the rollers (48).
Abstract:
A strippable paint is caused to sag onto coating surfaces (1, 2 and 3) of an automobile (V) within the range to be protected, from a plurality of nozzles (10) juxtaposed in the width-wise direction of the automobile (V) above the coating surfaces (1, 2 and 3) while controlling the number of discharge nozzles in accordance with the size of the range to be protected. Then, the strippable paint (18) is spread over the entire portions of the coating surfaces (1 to 3) within the range to be protected, and a range borne by each nozzle (10) is relatively reduced so that run-down of the strippable paint can be efficiently carried out, dust of the paint is prevented from scattering over a wide range, process steps can be reduced by eliminating a masking step and inspection/correction step, and a work load can be mitigated.
Abstract:
Methods are provided for protecting exterior surfaces of automobiles and other products, or components of products, against abrasion, abrasive dust, water, acid rain, etc. The methods involve applying to a surface a protective coating composition comprising an emulsion selected from the group consisting of a vinyl-acrylic copolymer emulsion and a vinyl acetate-ethylene emulsion. The emulsion is dried to form a water-resistant protective coating that can be removed from the underlying surface by peeling when no longer desired.
Abstract:
In a process for producing coatings adhering to the surface while being removable, a treatment liquid is produced from PUR elastomers enabling a thermoplastic treatment by admixing a solvent. Said treatment liquid, fluid or viscous depending on the mixture ratio, is applied to the surface and forms after evaporation of the solvent a coating adhering solidly to the surface while being completely removable if required. Even in the case of a thin wall, said coating has an excellent tear resistance while being elastic and flexible. Its surface is absolutely tight and it provides a reliable protection against the mechanical effects and the like. It is preferably used for the reconditioning and the repair of tyres of motor vehicles, the necessary rubber envelope being replaced by the coating. Said coating may also be used as a protection against oxidation and adverse mechanical influences for the rough lower surface of the prefabricated rubber tread for the reconditioning of tyres of motor vehicles.
Abstract:
A hand-tearable masking tape, comprising a plastic backing with a low adhesion backsize on the first major side of the backing and a pressure-sensitive adhesive on the second major side of the backing; wherein the second major side of the backing comprises a microstructured hand-tear pattern.

Abstract:
A paint mask in stick form is housed in a tubular dispenser. The paint mask permits immediate and convenient masking by application to the surface of glass or other base to be protected from inadvertent paint, especially window frames and mullions, while prohibiting paint to affix itself to window glass. The painter may conveniently grip the paint mask stick dispenser and rub the tool end of the dispenser onto targeted areas of the surface to be protected. The mask forms a peelable skin onto which paint, varnish, or other coating material may have adhered or contacted. The use of razor blades or other hard or sharp instruments which might damage the underlying surface is avoided

Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing a removable protection layer for surfaces, especially varnished surfaces of motor vehicle bodies, according to which a liquid thermosetting coating material is sprayed onto the surface to be protected, by means of a spraying nozzle (2, 4), and a hardened protection layer is then obtained on the surface. According to the invention, a substantially continuous string of coating material from an application nozzle (6) is then applied to the surface to be treated, at the edges of the coating material sprayed onto said surface. The invention also relates to a device for implementing said method, which is characterised in that it comprises at least one application nozzle (6) for applying a coating material in the form of a substantially continuous string on the surface to be treated.
