The object of the invention is a device (14) for cutting a fibre web and an arrangement and a method in connection with a pulp dryer (1). The invention relates especially to a new manner of cutting a fibre web (3) for example in case of a web break. An arrangement according to the invention comprises - a maintenance platform (7) movable in the vertical direction and arranged at the first or the second end of the pulp dryer, outside the wall (5) of the pulp dryer, - a transfer support (13) mainly transverse to the pulp web (3), outside the wall (5) of the pulp dryer at its first or second end, - a transfer carriage (15), which can be moved in its travel direction along a transfer support (13), - a bar (16) fixable to the transfer carriage (15) in the end or near the end of which bar a cutter (19) is arranged such that its cutting direction is at least mainly equal to the to the travel direction of the transfer carriage, - whereby the cutter (19) can be placed inside the wall (5) of the pulp dryer supported by the bar (16). When the transfer carriage (15) is moved along the transfer support (13), also the cutting device (14) moves in the transverse direction of the pulp dryer. During its movement, the cutting device (14) cuts the pulp web (3).

A slide cutter assembly (10) for use in sectioning lengths of a packaging material drawn from a roll (12). The device includes an elongated and shaped body (24). A first roll supporting portion (50) is located at a first end of said body (14) and a second roll supporting portion (52) is likewise located at a second end of the body (16). A cutter assembly (10) extends from a selected lengthwise extending edge of the body (82) and upon which an unwound length of the packaging material comes into contact. The cutter assembly (10) incorporates a traversable blade with edges (116, 118) for sectioning from the roll the length of packaging material. The roll of packaging typically comes in a generally elongated and three-dimensional shaped packaging, the cutter device being constructed so that it may be supported within an interior defined by the packaging and upon first mounting the roll between the first and second roll supporting portions (50, 52).

Method and apparatus for severing tire ply stock (S) wherein the apparatus includes a knife assembly (14) utilizing a blade (50) having a curved leading edge (58) and a straight trailing edge (62) which meet at a leading point (66). The ply stock (S) is supported by a slotted anvil (26) in the area immediately adjacent a cut line. In operation, the knife assembly (14) is lowered and the leading point (66) pierces the ply stock (S) between adjacent cords. During the downward stroke, the trailing edge (62) back-cuts the ply stock (S) from the insertion point (98) to a first lateral edge (18). The leading edge (58) severs the remainder of the ply stocks (S) as the knife assembly (14) traverses the ply stock to a second lateral edge (22).
