A flexible mat forming system may include an elongate, rotatable drum having a plurality of transverse rows of mold cavities about an outer periphery thereof, an elongate hopper positioned adjacent the drum, the hopper shaped to receive a hardenable paste and deposit the hardenable paste along a facing row of the plurality of transverse rows of mold cavities, a spool assembly for feeding a sheet of mesh material between the hopper and the facing row, and a retaining plate extending partially about the outer periphery of the drum and positioned on a downstream side of the elongate hopper, the retaining plate spaced sufficiently close to the outer periphery to retain the mesh material against the outer periphery of the drum and the hardenable paste within the mold cavities adjacent the retaining plate.

The invention relates to composite compositions having a matrix of polymer networks and dispersed phases of particulate or fibrous materials. The polymer matrix contains a polyurethane network formed by the reaction of a poly- or di-isocyanate and one or more saturated polyether or polyester polyols, and an optional polyisocyanurate network formed by the reaction of optionally added water and isocyanate. The matrix is filled with a particulate phase, which can be selected from one or more of a variety of components, such as fly ash particles, axially oriented fibers, fabrics, chopped random fibers, mineral fibers, ground waste glass, granite dust, or other solid waste materials. The addition of water can also serve to provide a blowing agent to the reaction mixture, resulting in a foamed structure, if such is desired.

A device for the production of slabs of wax or other thermoplastic material is provided with two endless conveyor belts (1, 2) placed opposite each other and one above the other between which the wax is fed, with side guide (17) running along with and between the parts of the conveyor belts facing each other and with cooling means (9, 10) for cooling the wax. The device contains side guide belts (17) with two flat parallel surfaces, each of which sealingly engages with the opposite surface of the corresponding conveyor belt part. The device is suitable for processing wax with a sticky character due to the horizontal position of the belts and the relatively large sealing areas between the belts and the side guides.

A continuous forming apparatus for molding foam material into foam products that includes a first endless belt and a second endless belt that cooperates with the first endless belt to mold the foam material. The continuous forming apparatus may also include a first plurality of cleats and a second plurality of cleats opposed to the first plurality of cleats that support the first endless belt and the second endless belt respectively. The first plurality of cleats may include a three-dimensional abutment surface that provides transverse and lateral support to the first endless belt. Additionally, the continuous forming apparatus may include a first frame disposed to support the first plurality of cleats, a second frame disposed to support the second plurality of cleats, and a drive mechanism for imparting motion to the first endless belt, the second endless belt, the first plurality of cleats, and the second plurality of cleats.

A method and apparatus for continuously casting a gradient or non-gradient electrophoretic gel slab includes reservoir cylinder blocks (1 and 2) which empty into nozzles (3) which deliver a gel solution onto a backing (4) riding between two belts (5 and 6), the belts sealed by platens (7) having UV transparent windows (8). As the gel solution is carried by the belts (5 and 6), it passes by a UV light source (9) which initiates polymerization of the gel. After polymerization, the gel slab is cut to a desired size.

A method of making a magnetically loaded pre-impregnated tape uses a drum (1) that is heated and which is associated with a heated bath (2) containing a thermo-plastic resin solution. A fibre tape material (4) is fed onto the drum (1) and, just prior to the fibre tape material meeting the periphery of the drum, the fibre tape material (4) is impregnated with an isotropic magnetic particle material (6) to form the pre-impregnated tape (8). The pre-impregnated tape may be fed to a heating station where it is bonded with a thermoplastic resin impregnated fibre tow to produce a magnetically loaded composite tape.
