Multiple processes for preparing porous articles are described. The porous articles can be in a wide array of shapes and configurations. The methods include providing a soluble material in particulate form and forming a packed region from the material. The methods also include contacting a flowable polymeric material with the packed region such that the polymeric material is disposed in voids in the packed region. The polymeric material is then at least partially solidified. The soluble material is then removed such as by solvent washing to thereby produce desired porous articles. Also described are systems for performing the various processes.

Thermoplastic laminates are fabricated in a continuous compression molding production line. A lay-up of laminate plies is placed in a recess on a carrying tool, and the tool is moved through successive forming operations on the line, including preforming and consolidation operations. The tool is separated from the fully formed part at the end of the line and may be reused. Use of the carrying tool reduces material scrap.

In one arrangement, the contact elements (60) are adapted to provide rigid contact with the tubular structure (12). The plastic moulding material is extruded into a pressure-tight mould in the form of a multiple-strip press with advancing pressed strips, where it solidifies under pressure. A device for carrying out the process comprises a multiple strip press with two facing continuously circulating main strips, with an inlet and an outlet side, lateral strips of runners, which tightly seal the space between the main strips at the sides, and an extruder nozzle arranged at the inlet side and connected in a pressure-tight manner to the pressed strips or runners.
