Abstract:
A flexographic printing system (100) including an ink pan (290) configured to pivot around a pivot element (260) having a pivot axis (206). A first bracket (262) affixed to the ink pan (290) is configured to rest on the pivot element (260), and a second bracket (263) is affixed to the ink pan (260) in an adjustable position and is configured to constrain the motion of the ink pan (290) to a pivoting motion around the pivot axis (206). A fountain roller (201) is mounted on the ink pan (290) and is at least partially immersed in the ink (205) in the ink pan (290) for transferring the ink (205) to an anilox roller (275) having a patterned surface for transferring a controlled amount of ink (205) from the ink pan (290) to the flexographic printing plate (272). A height adjustment mechanism (297) is provided for adjusting a height of a distal portion of the ink pan (290) to control the extent of contact between the fountain roller (201) and the anilox roller (275).
Abstract:
This invention relates to an anilox printing apparatus (20) for depositing ink onto a substrate (23) in a predetermined pattern. The apparatus (20) has a reservoir (22) provided with a weir (30) so that ink (24) may continuously overflow the top or end of the weir (30) and be removed from the reservoir (22) in a controlled fashion while maintaining a constant backpressure of ink (24) in the reservoir (22). This arrangement provides the advantage that ink leakage and splashing caused by debris entering the nip associated with a doctor blade (26) held against the anilox roll (25) or by surface imperfections interfering with the seal formed by such a doctor blade (26) are eliminated. This also provides a printing apparatus (20) for complete coating of the periphery of the anilox roll (25) with ink (24) without a high pressure system.
Abstract:
A fountain roll (28) and assembly for a can decorating apparatus wherein a pan (26) holding a supply of ink is adjustably mounted on a fixed frame (22, 24) so that the level of the supply of ink is generally in a horizontal plane and a fountain roll (28) rotatably mounted in the fixed frame and located so that the lower portion of its outer peripheral surface as it rotates is immersed in the supply of ink and wherein the fountain roll is rotated so that it enters the supply of ink in a generally downward direction and leaves the supply of ink in a general upward direction. A plurality of doctor blades (150) in a side-by-side contacting relationship are located to remove an excess amount of ink on the outer peripheral surface and to return such excess amount of the supply of ink. The doctor blades (150) are mounted in a unit which is laterally and pivotally adjustable. Also, the doctor blades are individually adjustable in linear directions toward or away from the outer peripheral surface of the fountain roll (28).
Abstract:
A flexographic printing system (100) comprising a print module (110, 120, 130, 140) including a plate cylinder (111, 121, 131, 141, 271) on which is mounted a flexographic printing plate (272), an impression cylinder (274), an ink pan (200) containing an ink (205), and an anilox roller (275) for transferring the ink (205) to the flexographic printing plate (272). A fountain roller (201) mounted to the ink pan (200) is at least partially immersed in the ink (205) in the ink pan (200) and transfers the ink (205) to the anilox roller (275). A doctor blade (220) mounted to the ink pan (200) and is on a side of the anilox roller (275) proximate to the impression cylinder (274) removes excess amounts of the ink (205) from the patterned surface of the first anilox roller (275) before the ink (205) is transferred to the flexographic printing plate (272).
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are systems methods for using ink comprising organometallics in a flexographic printing process using engraved anilox rolls to transfer ink to an impression roll that prints a pattern on a substrate. A banded anilox roll with more than one geometry and/or volume of cells may be used in these production systems and methods. The pattern printed may comprise a plurality of lines which are each from 1 micrometer - 25 micrometers wide and may be part of an electronics application such as a touch screen sensor or an RF antenna that requires microscopic conductive patterns such as touch screen displays or antennas.
Abstract:
A coating device for a printing press, comprises an anilox or other metering cylinder for ink or other coating material. A softer idler roller runs in contact with the metering cylinder and with a plate cylinder to transfer the ink or other coating material from the metering cylinder to the plate cylinder. The idler roller is sufficiently soft to accommodate normal unevennesses in the metering cylinder and the plate cylinder.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an ink pan (1) for printing machines, especially flexo printing and rotogravure printing. The ink pan (1) comprises parts (10, 16, 17) which are intended to accommodate ink (5) and means (13, 14) for supporting the pan. For the elimination of existing economical and environmental problems, the ink pan (1) in accordance with the invention is produced in such a material and in such a manner that it is disposable.
Abstract:
An inking device for printing machines that comprises an inking body (2) which is designed to be arranged so as to face the lateral surface of an anilox roller (3) and forms an inking chamber (7) that is open toward the anilox roller (3) and has at least one inlet (8) for introducing the ink into the inking chamber (7) and at least one outlet (9) for the exit of the ink from the inking chamber (7). The particularity of the invention consists in the fact that it comprises control means (13) that are adapted to vary the passage opening (9a) of the or of each outlet (9) as a function of the pressure of the ink in the inking chamber (7).
Abstract:
There is provided a removable ink cassette (19) for a flexographic printing press (1) containing an ink pan (3) and a meter roll (5). The ink pan (3) and the meter roll (5) are removed from the printing press together by removing the ink cassette (19) from the printing press. The ink pan may be removed from the printing press without first removing the anilox roll (7) and the meter roll (5).
