Present invention provides a tread for a tire, the tread being provided with at least one principal groove, the at least one principal groove having a depth D when the tread being brand new and a width W at the level of a contact face and being provided with a plurality of flexible fences extending radially outwardly from a bottom surface as to occupy at least 60% of cross-sectional area of the principal groove and being distant from two opposed wall surfaces. the at least one principal groove is provided with at least one depression portion of a width Dd formed on at least one of the two opposed wall surfaces as to widen the width W of the principal groove, the at least one principal groove has a maximum width W" wider than the width W at radially inward from the contact face when the tread is brand new.

Embodiments of the disclosure include a tire tread having tread blocks (24) each defined by a pair of lateral grooves (20) each being asymmetric whereby a first portion (26) of a trailing side (TS24) the tread block is inclined and extends to a peak (28), and whereby a recess (38) projects into tread block below the first portion. Each tread block also includes a sipe (22) extending into the tread thickness from the outer, ground-engaging side of the tread, where the sipe is generally inclined relative to the direction of the tread thickness, such that as the sipe extends into the tread thickness from the outer, ground-engaging side, the sipe extends towards the trailing side (TS24) of the corresponding tread block, the sipe including a groove (40) arranged along the sipe within the tread thickness and spaced below the outer, ground-engaging side of the tread. The groove being asymmetric relative to a centerline (CL22) of the sipe.

The present invention includes tire treads having a plurality of lateral voids and methods of forming a tire tread having a plurality of lateral voids. The lateral voids of the tire treads each have a length extending primarily in the lateral direction of the tread, and where each of the plurality of lateral void features include a groove portion (18) and a sipe portion (26). Arranged at the bottom of each of the plurality of lateral void features is a submerged groove (28). Additionally or alternatively, each of the plurality of lateral void features include a groove bumper (32).

A tire tread and a method for increasing effective skid depth while reducing undertread is provided along with a retreaded tire assembly. A kit for increasing effective skid depth of a retreaded tire is also provided.
