A console assembly includes a housing and a storage member having a receptacle into which an article can be stowed. The storage member is pivotally coupled to the housing for relative movement therewith between a retracted position, in which the receptacle is substantially inaccessible, and an extended position, in which the receptacle is accessible. The console assembly also includes a pivot extending from one of the housing and the storage member, a channel defined in the other of the housing and the storage member into which the pivot is received, and a resilient member positioned adjacent the channel and having a distal end engageable with the pivot when the resilient member is in a biased, first position to inhibit removal of the pivot from the channel. The resilient member is deflectable to a second position to permit movement of the pivot through the channel.

Provided is a method which comprises: an attaching step of attaching a pair of installation jigs, respectively, to right and left opposite lateral portions of a support member; a clamping step of clamping the clampable surface portion of each of the installation jigs by a clamping unit of transfer means; a temporarily mounting step of transferring the instrument panel module to the front of the passenger compartment by the transfer means to temporarily mount each of the right and left mounting brackets to a sidewall of a vehicle body; and a fastening step of, after the temporarily mounting step, detaching the installation jigs from the support member, and fastening each of the right and left mounting brackets to the sidewall of the vehicle body in the vehicle width direction by a fastening bolt.

The invention relates to an instrument panel tubular cross member equipped with a centring device (28) which is incorporated into the tubular cross member (24) by being formed from the material of the tube, and the centring device (28) comprises a ring (30) delimiting a cylindrical hole (32) of circular cross section, the ring (30) having an exterior surface (34) in a bearing plane substantially parallel to the axis of the tube (24), the cylindrical surface of the hole (32) and the exterior surface (34) being devoid of any burrs. The centring device is formed by a flow drilling operation. In the transverse part of the tube (24) which comprises the centring device, the tube (24) has a cross section elongated in the direction of the axis of the hole in the centring device. Method and system are provided wherein a process robot (26) moves the door (38) of a vehicle (23) to an open position, performs a robotically controlled process within the vehicle (23) and then moves the door (38) back to a closed position. A separate, two-axis programmable arm (26) holds the door (38) in the open position. In particular, the process robot (26) has attached thereto a tool extension (28) whereby the process robot (26) goes in through a window opening of the door (38) of the vehicle (23), executes a door open path where the door (38) contacts the inner panel of the door and opens the door over a magnetic holder (32) positioned on the two-axis programmable arm (26) below the bottom of the door (38). The magnet (32) is of sufficient magnetic strength to accurately hold the door (38) at the programmed holding position of the two-axis arm (44). The process robot (26) then performs a production operation (i.e. painting, priming, sealing, etc.) within the vehicle. The process robot (26) then inserts the tool extension (28) into the window slot (76) of the door and closes the door (38) without touching the processed surfaces of the vehicle (23).

A headliner and retainer bar assembly (10) adapted to be installed in the roof of a vehicle, comprising a headliner panel (12), a retainer bar (14) extending along the front edge portion of the panel on the top side of the panel next to the roof of the vehicle, and accessory components including sun visors (16, 18) on the bottom, finish side of the panel. The accessory components are secured to the retainer bar by fasteners (42, 50, 68, 74, 84) which extend through the headliner panel to provide a sandwich assembly capable of being installed as a unit. Fasteners (90), preferably of the type which are installed by being pushed into the designated attaching holes and then strongly resist being pulled back out, secure the retainer bar to the roof frame structure of the vehicle.
