The container includes a rigid top member (103) including at least one port opening (206) therein, having a recessed portion (902) of the underside of the rigid top member (103) along an outer perimeter, a rigid retaining ring (706) sized and shaped to match the size and shape of the recessed portion along the outer perimeter, and a flexible bag body (102) having an open top portion and a sealed bottom portion, an outer perimeter of the open top portion being folded over (704) the rigid retaining ring, the rigid retaining ring with the folded over perimeter of the open top portion of the flexible bag body being mated and locked in the recessed portion of the underside of the rigid top member along the outer perimeter in a fluid-tight seal arrangement.
Abstract:
A system for detecting disposal of metallic objects into an opening of a medical waste container, including: an indicator for indicating passage of metallic objects through the opening, a pair of receive coils and a transmit coil spaced therebetween shaped for receiving waste therethrough adjacent to the opening, and a controller in electrical communication with the coils. The controller generates and communicates a transmit signal to the transmit coil, which generates a magnetic field that induces voltage in each of the receive coils, which each generate a receive signal. The controller generates a waveform based on the receive signals with a baseline corresponding to absence of metallic objects, and analyzes the waveform with respect to opposite first and second thresholds. The controller activates the indicator in response to metallic objects passing through the coils when the waveform first exceeds the first threshold and then subsequently exceeds the second threshold.
Abstract:
An ashtray device (1) for collecting cigarette or cigar ash and butts, the device comprising a separation mechanism (2) for separating the ash from the butts, and at least two containers (10, 11), wherein a first container (10) is positioned so as to receive the butts and a second container (11) is positioned so as to receive the ash.
Abstract:
Container for disposal of solid pharmaceuticals and the like, comprising a receiving section and a disposal chamber (5). The receiving section comprises - a first member (6) being hollow, having one opening outside of the container, and the other opening inside the container, and - a second member being inside the container, the second member is performed as a flexible tube (8) connected to the receiving section in one end, and having the other end freely suspended above the disposal chamber. The first member is guiding solids thrown into the opening outside the container to the second member which guides the solids into the disposal chamber (5). The invention also concerns a use of a container of the above type.
Abstract:
A solid medical waste collection system for collecting solid medical waste. The system comprise a mobile cart with a bag for storing the waste. A pre-detection apparatus detects metal-containing objects prior to placing them inside the bag to reduce costs to the facility in which the cart is employed. The system may also include a bag-tensioning mechanism for securing the bag to the cart.
Abstract:
A device for the treatment and separate collection of waste of different nature comprising a treatment unit (10) for receiving and treating waste, said treatment unit (10) having one or more housings (11) to locate at least one shredding means (60; 70) adapted to shred waste of a certain nature; a collection unit (20) coupled to and communicating with the treatment unit (10) via at least one opening (21) to receive the treated waste leaving said opening (21) and insert it in at least one container (22) made of a material similar or equal to the treated waste material, the collection unit (20) comprising a movable support means (23) for supporting the container (22) inside a location area (24) and positioning said container (22) at the opening (21); and a management and control unit (30) for managing and controlling the operation of the shredding means (60; 70) and the movement of the support means (23) according to the nature of the waste treated by the treatment unit (10).
Abstract:
A waste cart comprising: a base housing, a center upright having a proximal end and a distal end where the proximal end is secured to the base housing, a top housing secured to the distal end of the center upright, the top housing having two or more disposal openings for two or more separate disposal portions, a first waste portion which has a first metal detector and an indicator system for providing a notification when a metal item is passes through the opening; a second waste portion which includes a second metal detector and an indicator system for providing a notification when a metal item is passes through the opening, an electronics module which operates each metal detector independently and an alarm indicator operationally associated with the electronics module which is activated whenever the electronics module detects the passage of a piece of metal into a waste portion.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A surgical sponge and fluid monitoring system and method are provided. The system (100) includes a support ring (104) for securely supporting a container (101) with at least one port opening (206) for placing sponges (204) into the container through the at least one port opening with the aid of gravity. The support ring includes IR emitters and sensors (604) that blanket IR beams (1402, 1404) across the at least one port opening. The support ring is mechanically linked to a load cell (706, 1329) in the system. The processor (1302), with novel methods, reliably detects when sponges are placed into the container through the at least one port opening, counts the number of sponges in the container, sorts the types of sponges, and calculates fluid loss for a patient in a surgical procedure. A user interface (1308, 114) in the monitoring system keeps the medical professionals (502) in the operating room fully informed.
