    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the treatment and purification of dangerous wastes containing ammonium salts, particularly ammonium chloride, derived from pharmaceutical and chemical technologies. The process includes the following steps: removing the organic solvent content of the waste mixture, containing an aqueous and non-aqueous phase, by phase separation based on the difference in the special weight and/or by azeotrop distillation, and heating the obtained aqueous solution at its boiling point or at a temperature belonging to the maximal saturation boiling point of the ammonium salt until the non-solvent type organic substances precipitate in the form of a well separable polymerisate phase, whereafter this phase is separated from the aqueous solution of the ammonium salt and the ammonium salt, preferably the ammonium chloride is purified by a method known per se.

    Abstract: Disclosed are processes and systems for sequestering carbon dioxide from a flue gas effluent from a parent process such as a coal-fired electric power plant. In one non-limiting embodiment of the invention, a mineral having a metal is dissolved with an acid to provide a solution having a predetermined pH. Carbon dioxide from the flue gas effluent and a base are added to the solution to provide a metal carbonate reaction to precipitate a metal carbonate, e.g., magnesium carbonate, from the solution. Heat, which may be supplied by the flue gas effluent, is used to power a base management system for recovering used base from the process. A process for producing metal salt from a mineral (such as olivine or serpentine) is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A method for recovering inorganic salt during processing of a lignocellulosic feedstock is provided. The method comprises pretreating the lignocellulosic feedstock by adding an acid to the feedstock to produce a pretreated lignocellulosic feedstock. A soluble base is then added to the pretreated lignocellulosic feedstock to adjust the pH and produce a neutralized feedstock. The neutralized feedstock is then enzymatically hydrolyzed to produce an enzyme hydrolyzed feedstock and a sugar stream. Inorganic salt is recovered from either a stream obtained from the lignocellulosic feedstock prior to the step of pretreating, a stream obtained from the pretreated lignocellulosic feedstock, a stream obtained from the neutralized feedstock, a stream obtained from the sugar stream, or a combination of these streams. The inorganic salt may be concentrated, clarified, recovered and purified by crystallization, electrodialysis drying, or agglomeration and granulation, and then used as desired, for example as a fertilizer.
