Processes are described for separating 3,4'- and 4,4' -dimethylbiphenyl from a mixture comprising at least 3,3'-, 3,4'- and 4,4' -dimethylbiphenyl. In the processes, the mixture is cooled to produce a crystallization product comprising at least of the 4,4'-dimethylbiphenyl from the feed mixture and a first mother liquor product. The first mother liquor product is distilled to produce a bottoms stream enriched in 4,4' -dimethylbiphenyl as compared with the first mother liquor product and an overhead stream deficient in 4,4' -dimethylbiphenyl as compared with the first mother liquor product. The overhead stream is then cooled to produce a second crystallization product comprising at least part of the 3,4' -dimethylbiphenyl from the overhead stream and a second mother liquor product.

Methods are provided for conversion of methanol and/or dimethyl ether to aromatics, such as a para-xylene, and olefins, such as ethylene and propylene. The methods can be used in conjunction with molecular sieve (zeolite) catalysts that are prepared for use in conjunction with selected effective conversion conditions. The combination of a catalyst and a corresponding effective conversion condition can allow for improved yield aromatics and olefins generally; improved yield of desired aromatics and olefins, such as para-xylene, ethylene, and/or propylene; reduced production of less desirable side products, such as methane, CO, CO 2 , and/or coke; or a combination thereof. The preparation of the catalyst can include modification of the catalyst with a transition metal, such as Zn or Ga. The preparation of the catalyst can also include steaming of the catalyst. In some aspects, the preparation of the catalyst can further include modifying the catalyst with phosphorous.

The process relates to the use of any naphtha-range stream containing a portion of C8+ aromatics combined with benzene, toluene, and other non-aromatics in the same boiling range to produce toluene. By feeding the A8+ containing stream to a dealkylation/transalkylation/cracking reactor to increase the concentration of toluene in the stream, a more suitable feedstock for the methylation reaction can be produced. This stream can be obtained from a variety of sources, including the pygas stream from a steam cracker, "cat naphtha" from a fluid catalytic cracker, or the heavier portion of reformate.

This present disclosure relates to processes and apparatuses for toluene methylation in an aromatics complex for producing paraxylene. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to processes and apparatuses wherein a toluene methylation zone is integrated within an aromatics complex for producing paraxylene thus allowing no benzene byproduct to be produced. This may be accomplished by incorporating a toluene methylation process into the aromatics complex and recycling the benzene to the transalkylation unit the aromatics complex.

The extract stream is fractionated in an extract fractionator to produce a low pressure extract overhead stream with gaseous desorbent. In one exemplary embodiment, a method for producing gasoline includes the steps of isomerizing a first stream comprising normal C 6 hydrocarbons to produce a second stream comprising first and second branched C 6 hydrocarbons and deisohexanizing the second stream to produce a third stream comprising the first and second branched C 6 hydrocarbons wherein the first branched hydrocarbons and the second branched hydrocarbons are present in a first proportion, and a fourth stream comprising the first second branched hydrocarbons wherein the first branched and the second branched hydrocarbons are present in a second proportion. The first proportion has a relative percentage of first branched hydrocarbons that is greater than a relative percentage of first branched hydrocarbons in the second proportion.

A process for separating para -xylene from aromatic compounds is presented. The process introduces throughout a first step-time interval a first mixed xylene stream into a first feed input on a first adsorptive separation unit comprising multiple bed lines. The process further introduces throughout the first step-time interval a second mixed xylene stream into a second feed input on the first adsorptive separation unit. During a first portion of the first step-time interval, the process introduces material from a feed stream used during the first step-time interval into a bed line not used to deliver a stream into, or withdraw a stream from, the first adsorptive separation unit during the first step time interval. During a second portion of the first step-time interval, the process introduces material from a purification zone into the feed stream used during the first step-time interval.
