Natural amorphous silica filler products featuring high brightness, low oil absorption, fine particle size, and low crystalline silica content are described. Methods for making, using, and measuring the properties of the natural amorphous silica filler products are also disclosed. The natural amorphous silica filler products described herein may be useful in a variety of products including, but not limited to, polymers, sealants, paints, caulks, latex, architectural coatings, industrial coatings, pozzolan, glass catalysts, ceramic glazes, and anti-blocking applications.

The present invention relates to a process for modifying the surface of nanoparticles, comprising providing nanoparticles, activating the surface of said nanoparticles by treatment with energetic species, and treating said nanoparticles with at least one gaseous phosphorus-containing compound having at least one functional group selected from a phosphoric acid group, a phosphonic acid group, a phosphinic acid group, a phosphinous acid group, salts thereof and derivatives thereof, a phosphine group and derivatives thereof, a phosphine oxide group and derivatives thereof, a phosphite group and a phosphonium group, resulting in chemical grafting of said phosphorus-containing compound on the surface of the nanoparticles. The invention also relates to a method of preparation of a stabilized dispersion of nanoparticles using the above prepared nanoparticles.

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Kontinuierliches Verfahren zur Herstellung von zumindest annähernd sphärischen im wesentlichen massiven Teilchen, in dem die Teilchen in einer zirkulierenden Wirbelschicht granuliert werden. Dies kann insbesondere erreicht werden, in dem man: a) eine Suspension oder eine Lösung des die Teilchen bildenden Feststoffs in einer Kammer versprüht, b) ein Trockengas die Kammer mit einer Geschwindigkeit durchströmen lässt, die ausreicht, um eine pneumatische Förderung von bereits teilweise getrockneten oder agglomerierten Teilchen zu bewirken, c) die vom Trockengasstrom geförderten Teilchen aus dem Abgasstrom abtrennt, d) die aus dem Abgasstrom abgetrennten Teilchen der Kammer zumindest teilweise wieder zuführt und e) Teilchen mit einer Größe innerhalb des gewünschten Teilchengrößenbereichs kontinuierlich aus der Kammer austrägt, so dass die sich in der Kammer befindliche Masse konstant bleibt. The method is characterised in that silicon dioxide is introduced into an electromagnetic shielding device selected from the following: an aluminium/magnesium metal shielding device and a hypomagnetic chamber consisting of permalloy steel; and incubated for a period of at least 3, preferably at least 6 hours.
