Abstract:
Scroll members for scroll compressors made from one or more near-net shaped powder metal processes, either wholly or partially fabricated together from sections. In certain variations, the involute scroll portion of the scroll member has a modified terminal end region. The terminal end region may include an as-sintered coupling feature comprising a tip component that forms a contact surface for contacting an opposing scroll member during compressor operation. The tip component can be a tip seal or a tip cap received by the as-sintered coupling feature. The tip cap may be sinter-bonded or otherwise coupled to the terminal end region. In other variations, a terminal end region may comprise a second material including a tribological material that forms a contact surface. Methods of making such scroll members for scroll compressors are also provided.
Abstract:
Abstract:
The present invention concerns a powder metallurgical produced component and the manufacturing process thereof. In particular, the component is a belt pulley to be used in a combustion engine, the component having enhanced resistance against wear and sufficient strength. The production method utilise comparably non expensive powder materials and production steps, hence being cost effective.
Abstract:
A process for producing an ordered martensitic iron nitride powder that is suitable for use as a permanent magnetic material is provided. The process includes fabricating an iron alloy powder having a desired composition and uniformity; nitriding the iron alloy powder by contacting the material with a nitrogen source in a fluidized bed reactor to produce a nitride iron powder; transforming the nitride iron powder to a disordered martensitic phase; annealing the disordered martensitic phase to an ordered martensitic phase; and separating the ordered martensitic phase from the iron nitride powder to yield an ordered martensitic iron nitride powder.
Abstract:
A small diameter, elongated steel article, comprising fully consolidated, prealloyed metal powder is disclosed. The consolidated metal powder has a microstructure that has a substantially uniform distribution of fine grains having a grain size of not larger than about 9 when determined in accordance with ASTM Standard Specification E 112. The microstructure of the consolidated metal powder is further characterized by having a plurality of substantially spheroidal carbides uniformly distributed throughout the consolidated metal powder that are not greater than about 6 microns in major dimension and a plurality of sulfides uniformly distributed throughout the consolidated metal powder wherein the sulfides are not greater than about 2 microns in major dimension. A process for making the elongated steel article is also disclosed.

A small diameter, elongated steel article, comprising fully consolidated, prealloyed Pb-free metal powder having a superior machinability is disclosed. The consolidated metal powder has a microstructure that has substantially uniform distribution of fine grains having an ASTM grain size number of not smaller than about 9 when determined in accordance with ASTM Standard Specification E 112. The microstructure of the consolidated metal powder is further characterized by having a plurality of sulfides not larger than about 2 microns (2 μm) in major dimension and a plurality of substantially spheroϊdal carbides uniformly distributed throughout the consolidated metal powder that are not greater than about 6 microns (6 μm) in major dimension, both fully geometrically compatible with the ISO Tolerance grade and surface roughness requirements to satisfy. A process for making the elongated steel article is also disclosed.
