The patterned tissue webs and products are manufactured by topically applying a pattern to a partially dewatered tissue web having a consistency from about 10 to about 50 percent. After application of the pattern, the tissue web is dried to a consistency from about 90 to about 100 percent. A wide variety of patterns may be applied to the tissue web in this manner, such as continuous and discontinuous patterns, and for example, a plurality of spaced apart continuous stripes of color oriented in the machine direction of the tissue web.
