An example of a coating composition for a packaging liner includes an inorganic pigment, a latex, polyvinyl alcohol in an amount ranging from greater than 2 dry wt% to about 7 dry wt%, and a fixing agent. The fixing agent is selected from the group consisting of water-soluble mono-valent metallic salts, water-soluble multi-valent metallic salts, and combinations thereof, wherein the metallic salt includes (i) a cation of a metal selected from the group consisting of Group I metals, Group II metals, Group III metals, transition metals, and combinations thereof, and (ii) an anion selected from the group consisting of chloride, propionate, iodide, bromide, nitrate, sulfate, sulfite, phosphate, chlorate, acetate, chlorohydrate, and combinations thereof.

This invention relates to a coating composition comprising a binder in an amount of 50-90 dry weight % of the coating composition, a pigment in an amount of 10-50 dry weight % of the coating composition, and an additive in an amount of 0.2-7 dry weight % of the coating composition. The said binder comprises ethylene vinyl alcohol polymer or polyvinyl alcohol polymer or a mixture thereof in an amount of 10-30 dry weight % of the coating composition, and styrene-butadiene emulsion in an amount of 40-70 dry weight % of the coating composition. In addition, the invention relates to a substrate coated with the said coating composition and application of the coated substrate to produce various products such as packaging.

A resin composition which comprises (A) 40 to 75 parts by weight of a polyolefin, (B) 25 to 60 parts by weight of a tackifier, and (C) 0 to 20 parts by weight of a compatibilizing agent, provided that the sum of the components (A), (B), and (C) is 100 parts by weight; and a resin composition which comprises 100 parts by weight of the components (A), (B), and (C) and 20 to 300 parts by weight of an inorganic filler (D). By use of either composition, a water-resistant/moisture-proof paper can be provided at low cost which after use can be easily macerated with a pulper in a papermaking step and thereby made recyclable to papermaking feedstocks.

There is provided a coated paperboard material for use in packages adapted for shelf-life extending heat treatment, for example with steam as a heat medium, comprising a base board provided with a pigment coating to form a surface for printing, which pigment coating comprises a pigment mixture, at least one binder and a zirconium-based compound, wherein the pigment mixture comprises at least 40 wt.% calcium carbonate and at least 10 wt.% clay.

Disclosed are aqueous polymer dispersions which can be used as binders in paper coating compositions. Such dispersions are made using a continuous polymerization process involving a tubular reactor with a continuous loop section and a secondary line section and comprise a polymer of polymerized copolymers (a) a vinyl ester, (b) an ethylenically unsaturated mono or di-carboxylic acid or half ester of a di-carboxylic acid, and (c) a comonomer having a multifunctional moiety.

In accordance with one aspect, the coated paper comprises a cellulosic substrate and a coating on at least one side of the substrate wherein the coating comprises a binder and a pigment such that the coated side exhibits surface characteristics such that the surface accepts cold-set inks.

L'invention concerne l'utilisation dans une sauce de couchage papetière, d'un latex composé essentiellement de styrène et de taille de particules centrée sur 100 nm, comme agent permettant de diminuer la viscosité sous haut gradient de cisaillement, et de l'augmenter sous bas gradient. Elle concerne le procédé de fabrication de la sauce, la sauce en tant que telle, et le procédé de couchage d'un papier à partir de cette sauce.

The invention therefore provides a method of improving print performance in a paper product comprising applying a coating composition comprising (i) a pigment and (ii) a starch dispersion of discrete crosslinked native starch particles in an aqueous liquid, wherein the particle size of the starch particles in the starch dispersion ranges from about 40 nm to about 400μm, to the paper product, wherein the print performance of the paper product is improved. In one embodiment, the coating composition comprises a solids content of from 5 to about 75% weight and comprises (i) about 100 parts by weight of pigment, and (ii) about 1 to about 300 parts by weight of starch, all based on dry weight.
