Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for preparing an aqueous dispersion of a polymer P, which comprises the emulsion polymerization of vinyl acetate, an acrylate monomer, which is a C 1 -C 10 alkyl acrylate or a C 1 -C 10 methacrylate, an α,β-ethlyenically unsaturated C 3 -C 8 carboxylic acid, glycidyl methacrylate or glycidyl acrylate, optionally an ethylenically unsaturated sulfonic acid and optionally an ethylenically unsaturated other monomer. Furthermore, the aqueous polymer dispersion obtainable from this process and a powder form thereof are disclosed. They are useful for a paper coating slip containing one of the aforementioned forms. A paper or a cardboard, which is coated with the paper coating slip, shows surface strength, which is expressed by a good dry pick resistance, a good wet pick resistance or good offset test results. The aqueous polymer dispersion or the powder form thereof is furthermore useful as a binder.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a polymer dispersion for paper coating compositions obtainable by means of a radically initiated, aqueous emulsion polymerization of a) 60 to 97 % by weight of vinyl acetate, b) 2 to 30 % by weight of ethylene, c) 0,5 to 5 % by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated silane monomer, d) 0,5 to 5 % by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, based in each case on the total weight of the monomers used for the polymerization, and the data in % by weight summing in each case to 100 % by weight, in the presence of one or more polymeric emulsifiers.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a coating composition for a printing substrate. Method comprises mixing together colloidal silica particles, and an aqueous dispersion of a synthetic polymer and/or polyaluminium chloride, as well as a binder solution. The obtained mixture is used for forming a coating composition to be applied on the printing substrate comprising lignocellulosic fibres. The invention also relates to a coating composition comprising binder and a dispersed cationic component derived from synthetic polymer and colloidal silica particles.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an impregnated abrasive base paper produced from fibres and having a weight per unit area of 110 - 360 g/m2, which abrasive base paper is partially sized by means of a synthetic sizing agent. The added quantity of sizing agent amounts to 0.5 % - 3.0 %, relative to the dry fibres, such that the abrasive base paper has a suction height in the longitudinal direction of 2 mm to 70 mm. The abrasive base paper has a tensile stiffness index in the longitudinal direction of 2.0 MNm/kg to 7.0 MNm/kg and a modulus of elasticity in the longitudinal direction of 2000 to 5500 MPa.
Abstract:
Described is an aqueous polymer dispersion comprising a chain growth addition polymer obtainable via free-radically initiated emulsion polymerization from ethylenically unsaturated, free-radically polymerizable monomers, wherein the chain growth addition polymer is formed to an extent of not less than 60 wt% from primary monomers selected from vinylaromatic compounds, conjugated aliphatic dienes, vinyl esters of saturated C 1 - to C 20 -carboxylic acids, esters of acrylic acid or of methacrylic acid with monohydric C 1 - to C 20 -alcohols, aliphatic hydrocarbons having 2 to 8 carbon atoms and one or two double bonds, or mixtures thereof, wherein the monomers are polymerized in the presence of lignosulfonate and wherein the chain growth addition polymer is branched or crosslinked. Also described is a process for preparing the aqueous polymer dispersion. The polymer dispersion is useful for preparing paper coating compositions.
