Abstract:
A Containment Boom and Standoff has three embodiments, a Dual Plank Assembly, a Dual Pole Assembly, and a Dual Flotation/Water Ballast Assembly. The Dual Plank Assembly comprises buoyant planks covered with impermeable material with sealed poles inside the planks and mechanical connectors on the ends. The Dual Flotation/Water Ballast Assembly comprises a pair of dual chamber assemblies with an upper chamber for flotation material and lower chamber for water ballast. Both assemblies have sufficient buoyancy to float high enough in water to block the passage of a floating oil spill over the top and low enough to prevent oil from going underneath. Structure positioning magnets attach the assemblies to an aquatic structure to provide a localized containment boom that is efficient to use as a containment boom and/or a standoff. The Dual Pole Assembly comprises sealed poles with magnetic positioners to stand off boom from aquatic structure.
Abstract:
A concrete beam and a mounting mechanism, which is a part thereof, is a system with which reinforced concrete beams made into the form of a log structure are quickly, flexibly, and tightly-mounted together, generating waterproof structures to be used, among others, in dam structures, bulkheads, piers, jet-ties, bridges. The beams (17) and (18) are fastened onto each other with a joint device (7).
Abstract:
Modular boom curtain section are disclosed, including zipper elements for connection of adjacent modular boom curtain sections. Boom curtains assembled from the boom curtain sections, boom systems containing those boom curtains, and methods of assembling the boom systems are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A containment boom guide system for guiding and containing a floating containment boom to a fixed structure such as a pier, ship, column, dock, sea wall, or other like structure. The guide system is made up of one or more boom guide(s) and allows lateral and vertical movement of the floating containment boom while keeping the boom secure to the fixed structure.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a boom system which can simultaneously serve as a barrier and as a temporary storage device. The concept provides several basic elements which can be joined in a Lego-like" manner. According to the invention, these pieces are not only longitudinally but also transversally interconnected to produce linear, star-shaped and reticular barriers. The basic element consists of lightweight double film tubes which are pre-packed in bundles. The length of the film double tubes can be adapted to suit the particular situation and can range, for example, between 5 and 400 meters. This novel system can be combined with heavy booms of the prior art to be used for very serious accidents. It is, however, particularly suited for small and medium-sized booms, whereby the oil can be collected and accommodated advantageously using skimmers.
Abstract:
A method of controlling movement of suspended particulates or marine life in a body of water. The method includes introducing into the body of water containing suspended particulates or marine life a containment/exclusion boom (10) having a curtain (14) formed of a flexible fabric that controls the passage of suspended particulates or marine life through the curtain (14) and injecting a gas into the water in a manner effective substantially to remove fouling material from the curtain (14). Further, the present invention relates to a method of cleaning fouling material from a boom curtain (10) suspended in a body of water, a containment/exclusion boom (10) for controlling movement of suspended particulates or marine life in a body of water, and use of the boom of the present invention for filtering intake water or reducing transmission of energy of the shock wave of an underwater explosion (400).
Abstract:
The invention concerns modular construction of a retainer system which simultaneously can serve both for retaining and temporary storage. The design calls for a few basic elements which can be attached like "lego" and are always based on the same connecting elements (23). However, the design includes both lengthways and crossways coupling. This enables linear, star-shaped and web-shaped retainers to be constructed. The basic element consists of light-weight tubular canisters which serve as containers (13) for the dual sealed tubes folded into themselves. The length of the dual sealed tubes can be adapted to the particular situation and ranges, for example, from 5-100 meters. In the case of large-scale accidents, the new system can be combined with the heavy state-of-the-art retainers. However, it is particularly suited for smaller and medium oil spills, in the course of which the collection and skimming of oil can be particularly well optimized.
