Abstract:
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to containment and control of an oil spill caused by a damaged or broken riser in deepwater. More specifically, the present invention relates to a reusable unit that will contain oil spills to a specific location and will also allow oil to be harvested as it flows to the top of the unit while minimizing or even eliminating any environmental clean-up cost. The unit of the present invention is dropped over a damaged or broken riser in a closed positin, the unit is released and stabilized in sections until the surface is reached and the containment unit is completely erected.
Abstract:
A method of containing a spill in an aqueous environment, comprises the steps of: ∙ placing a polymeric pipe under the surface level of the aqueous environment in the vicinity of a site of potential spillage; and ∙ raising the pipe from under the surface level to a containment level; wherein the pipe forms, when raised, at least a partial boundary around the spill for containing the spill.
Abstract:
A chemical sorbent article comprising a nonwoven containing a plurality of thermoplastic nanofibers and a textile, where the textile at least partially surrounds the non-woven. Also an oil boom fence containing a nonwoven comprising a plurality of thermoplastic nanofibers, a weight, a buoyancy article, and a fabric. The fabric at least partially surrounds the nonwoven, the weight, and the buoyancy article and the weight and buoyancy article are separated by the nonwoven.
Abstract:
The cover is formed by binding together a series of floating elements, each of which is formed around a floating core (1) in the centre of which are placed a plurality of portions of floating material (2), with a laminar envelope (3) and the entire unit placed in a cover (4), made up of a flexible sheet that may be waterproof or otherwise and may be formed by a mesh, the ends of the envelope (4) being closed by sewing (17) or any other suitable closing method, including upper and lower tension elements (11 and 10) and loops (12) and clevises or shackles (13) at the extremities to connect elements with one another to form the barrier. The whole is complemented with a flexible sheet (5) that extends downwards in a skirt (6) with a pocket (7) for ballast (8).
Abstract:
A floatable, portable and readily deployable apparatus used in a surface water body for the collection, mixing, separation, containment and removal of total solids from fluid in surface water by settling, sorption, floatation or filtration of total solids from fluid entering or pumped into the apparatus. Separation of total solids from fluid can include the use and recycling of commercially available or proprietary biologic, chemical and/or physical substances and processes to increase the rate and percentage of total solids removed from fluid in the apparatus.
Abstract:
A submergible marine barrier protecting marine installations in a protected zone against intrusion and providing a containment barrier against spread of floating spills or bodies. The body of the barrier is supported above water by a main body thus preventing intrusion and containing floating spillage. A weight in main body keeps the barrier upright, and a rigid floatation chamber in the main body keeps it afloat when full of air. A skimming pipe collects floating pollution. Flooding the floatation chambers causes the barrier to submerge allowing access to the protected zone and protecting the barrier from storms. Body, main body, and floatation chambers are made of extruded material with flotation properties (e.g. plastic pipes). Floatation chambers are connected by air hoses and have air venting tubes at their bottom. Sensors detect approaching intruders and pollution, while spikes, barbed-wire and diver-net or any known barrier are used to stop them.
Abstract:

Abstract:
Embodiments disclosed here include a containment system which may include a segmented buoyant rim. Certain embodiments also include an inflatable rim with at least one inflation/deflation valve in the rim segments and ballast in the rim segments. Additionally, certain embodiments include material connected to the rim segments, to enclose a void created in the rim and to hang below the buoyant rim.
