Abstract:
Abstract:
A barrier (10) for use in an oil spill on water, comprising a substantially rigid planar member (12) made from plastics, a weight (16) attached to a lower end (14) of the barrier (10), in use, an upper portion (12a) of the barrier (10) extending vertically above the waterline and a lower portion (12b) of the barrier (10) extending vertically beneath the waterline.
Abstract:
A boom for containing floating material spilled in water including an elongated sheet including units and spaces between the units, each one of the units including a plurality of plates attached to the sheet, designed to fold flat when packed, and to self-expand into a polygonal cross-sectional shape when unpacked. Related apparatus and methods are also described.
Abstract:
An igniter device (10) operable to remediate a floating oil spill in a body of water is provided. The device (10) comprises a pyrotechnic device (28) that is actuated through an actuator assembly (20) comprising time delay circuitry (24). Upon actuation, the time delay circuitry (24) begins a countdown permitting the device (10) to be safely deployed from an aerial vehicle. The pyrotechnic device (28) ignites a fuel source (38), which in turn ignites the floating oil spill.
Abstract:
A modular subsea chemical injection system, comprising a power and communications module (20), a power and communications umbilical terminator (22), a power and communications module (30), a fluid storage module (40) comprising a plurality of fluid storage bays (41) adapted to selectively receive a corresponding plurality of high and/or low flow fluid storage units (42), a pump module (50) comprising a plurality of pump bays (51) adapted to selectively receive a corresponding plurality of high fluid flow and/or low fluid flow pumps (52), and a fluid distribution unit (60) in fluid communication with a pump module fluid port (54) can be disposed on a seafloor adjacent to a well site and used to selectively provide low and/or high flow fluid delivery by use of subsea storage and pressure boosting for low flow fluid needs and low flow fluid needs.
Abstract:
A submergible marine barrier protecting marine installations in a protected zone against intrusion and providing a containment barrier against spread of floating spills or bodies. The body of the barrier is supported above water by a main body thus preventing intrusion and containing floating spillage. A weight in main body keeps the barrier upright, and a rigid floatation chamber in the main body keeps it afloat when full of air. A skimming pipe collects floating pollution. Flooding the floatation chambers causes the barrier to submerge allowing access to the protected zone and protecting the barrier from storms. Body, main body, and floatation chambers are made of extruded material with flotation properties (e.g. plastic pipes). Floatation chambers are connected by air hoses and have air venting tubes at their bottom. Sensors detect approaching intruders and pollution, while spikes, barbed-wire and diver-net or any known barrier are used to stop them.
Abstract:
Method for forming a flood dam limiting the extension or flooding of water or other liquids, such as oil or for forming a floating flood boom in which method mass (4), (14), which is needed for forming the mentioned dam or a boom, is being brought to the location of the dam or the boom with the help of a transport vehicle and the mentioned mass is being formed to have a dam or a boom form. The mass (4), (14) is moved close to the mounting surface of a dam (6) or a boom (12) with the help of a vehicle, such as a lorry or from the loading space (1) of the vehicle with the help of a mass transport vehicle, such as a pipe (2), groove or a conveyor (10) and when the mass (4), (14) is being unloaded from the mentioned vehicle, it is directed inside a flexible, pipe-like protective casing (3), (11) in which case in the method the protective casing (3), (11) is located around the mentioned mass transport vehicle and is located to be unloaded from there in order to form an outer casing for the dam (6) or the boom (12).
Abstract:
A floating containment boom (10) for containing oil and other pollutants on the surface of a body of water. The boom (10) comprises a plurality of floats (12) arranged serially in connection with an elongate, flexible, tension member (14). Each float (12) is spaced apart from an adjacent float (12). The boom (10) further comprises an elongate containment skirt (16) made from a flexible, polymer plastics material. The skirt (16) is mechanically coupled to, and supported in a vertical orientation on the water surface by, the floats (12). The skirt (16) has a plurality of flexing sections (18) folded in concertina fashion, the flexing sections (18) being located in the spaces between the floats (12). The tension members (14) and the containment skirt (16) are terminated at each end by a respective buoy (30). The boom (10) is able to flex in both horizontal and vertical directions so as to more effectively provide containment in varying wave conditions.
Abstract:
An inflatable hose system which may act as a boom for rescue purposes or for controlling the flow of surface borne contaminants of rivers, lakes and seas and comprising first and second hose lengths (10, 11) each having one end (12) flattened and sealed to be chiselshaped and the other end provided with a coupling (15, 16). The two lengths (10, 11) and any interposing standard hose lengths may thus be coupled together and inflated to a pressure in the range of 2 to 3.5 bar to provide a boom of the required length, and one of the hose lengths includes an inflation valve (20). The hose length may be connected together in mutual alignment thus to produce a straight boom or with the interposition of elbows to form a curved boom capable of containing floating objects or substances.
