A measuring device having a tape for taking angle and length measurements, and capable of providing a user discernible indication of the angular orientation of its tape relative in any given extended measuring state relative to a predetermined orientation, for example, the horizontal. The measuring device preferably is capable of reading out one or more measurements associated with any given extented measuring state, and transmitting them to a remote device. The measuring device preferably has one or more finger depressible soft feature keys each programmable with a user specified function downloaded from a host computer.

본 고안은 길이표시기능이 구비된 줄자에 관한 것으로서, 케이싱(10) 내부에 선단부(102)를 제외한 금속줄자(101)가 출몰 가능하게 권선되어 내장된 통상의 줄자(100)에 있어서, 상기 케이싱(10)의 측면부(11)로부터 직각되는 저면부(12)에 대해 일정간격을 두고 형성되는 슬라이드홈(13a) 및 측면부와 이격되는 삽입 틈(13b)을 갖는 가이드부(13)가 일체로 형성되고, 상기 가이드부(13)의 저면부(12)에는 나사체결공(13c)이 형성되되, 나사체결공(13c)의 내측에 안내되어 가이드홈부(13) 내에서 일부분이 돌출 지지되는 록크볼(14), 록크볼(14)을 탄력 지지하는 압축스프링(15)이 안내되고, 록크볼(14) 및 압축스프링(15)의 이탈을 방지하는 렌치볼트(16)가 설치되는 구조로 이루어지며, 상기 가이드부(13)의 슬라이드홈(13a) 및 삽입 틈(13b)으로부터 일측이 안내되어 케이싱(10)으로부터 인출된 금속줄자(101)의 눈금을 통해 대상물에 길이를 표시하는 마킹부재(20)가 구비된 것을 특징으로 하는바, 케이싱의 측부로부터 금속줄자가 인출되는 방향으로 마킹부재를 인출하고, 여기에 필기구를 장착하여 인출된 금속줄자의 해당눈금에 정확히 일치시켜 대상물의 길이부분에 대한 위치를 표식시켜 주고, 미사용시에는 다시 케이스의 측부측으로 위치시켜 사용함으로써, 한 손으로도 줄자의 인출 및 길이표시가 가능하기 때문에 유용하게 현장에서 사용할 수 있으며, 필요에 따라서는 마킹부재를 완전히 줄자로부터 분리시켜 기존 줄자의 형태로도 병행 사용할 수 있는 효과를 제공한다.

A tape measure comprises a main case having first and second sidewalls and a peripheral wall extending between the sidewalls; a flexible tape blade selectively deployable from the case; the tape blade having a generally curved cross-sectional profile when deployed from the main case and having a generally flat profile when retracted into the main case; a hook attached to a first end of the tape blade so as to be movable a distance along a longitudinal axis of the tape blade; the hook having a first section disposed generally parallel to the longitudinal axis and a second section connected thereto and disposed generally normal to the longitudinal axis, the hook having a weight factor of not more than about 0.60. The tape blade may advantageously be not more than about 1.10 inch in width and have a standout of at least 9½ feet.

A tape measure includes a spool, a housing defining an opening, where the spool is rotatably coupled to the housing, and a blade including a first end and a second end, where the first end is connected to the spool and the second end is movable through the opening between a retracted position and an extended position. The manually retractable tape measure further includes a cleaning assembly positioned within the housing adjacent the opening such that the cleaning assembly is in contact with the blade to push away debris from the blade as the blade moves between the retracted position and the extended position.

The present invention provides a measuring device comprising a measuring tape, and a coupling hingedly mounted to the free end of the measuring tape, the coupling comprising a first section and a second section, wherein the first section and the second section are substantially perpendicular to one another, the coupling being moveable between a first state in which the first section is disposed substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the measuring tape, and a second state in which the second section is disposed substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the measuring tape.

A tape measure (10) includes a housing (12)- that includes a frame (14) and a mouthpiece body (40) moveable mounted to the frame. The mouthpiece body includes a tape exit port (52) that is moveable, advantageously rotatably, and may include an external recess (50) aligned with the exit port. A measuring tape (80) is supported by the housing and selectively deployable from the housing via the exit port. The movable exit port may allow the tape to enter the housing along a line that is tangent' to the coil of tape (72) rotatably supported by the housing. This tangency is advantageously maintained as the size of the coil changes due to the amount of tape therein. Other aspects and methods are also disclosed.

An improved retractable tape measure (10) has, according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the features of a standard measure, including a housing (46) with front (48) and rear (50) sides, a boundary edge (52) and a tape opening (14), a retractable measuring tape (16) positioned within this housing, with the tape having a free end (26) that extends through the housing's opening, plus the improvements yielded by: (a) configuring the housing sides (48, 50) to be tear-drop shaped with a tip end (54), and (b) locating the tape opening (14) in a portion of the boundary edge (52) proximate the tape's tip end (54). When a knob (42) is depressed a blade-like member (38) slides from a rear position to a forward position so that the tape (16) is deformed horizontally.

An improved tape measure apparatus (10) which can be used as a marking gauge and/or compass comprising a tape measure (20), an insert (560) comprising a base (580), a guide (680) attached to the base (580) and generally parallel to graduated indicia markings (220) of the rule blade (200) when extended from the tape measure (20) whereby the graduated markings (220) of the tape measure's rule blade (200) may be read. An alternative embodiment includes an insert (560) enabling standard tape measures to be used as marking gauges and/or compasses.
