Abstract:
Sample collection devices (SCDs) and methods of using them are provided. The SCDs contain a protein component that is suitable for separating biological macromolecules from a test location. The protein component can be Squid Ring Teeth (SRT) protein, which can be provided in a variety of forms such as foams and fibers. Kits that contain the SCDs are included. Also included are methods for separating biological macromolecules from test locations using the SCDs, which facilitates characterization of the macromolecules.
Abstract:
A biopsy tracking kit includes a trocar, a stylet, a biopsy needle, a biopsy tracking cassette, and a fiducial marker. The trocar has a cannula with a blunt first end and a second end with a cup. The stylet has a conical tip at a first end and a cap on a second end that engages the cup of the trocar and prevents the stylet from falling through the trocar. The biopsy needle is used to obtain biopsy specimens when inserted through the trocar. The biopsy tracking cassette comprises an internal surface with a plurality of coded zones in a single column, and is used to differentiate the biopsy specimen into smaller regions. The fiducial marker is oriented to mark the position where the biopsy specimen was taken. Other systems, devices, and methods of use are also described.
Abstract:
A scent storage element is described. The scent storage element includes: a scent-retaining portion formed by at least one sealed section along an edge of the scent storage element; a re-sealable feature along an edge of the scent-retaining portion; and a tamper-proof element adapted to provide an indication as to whether the re-sealable feature has been opened after the tamper-proof element has been secured. A scent collection and storage kit includes: a case; a scent storage element; a scent retention element adapted to fit within the scent storage element; and usage instructions. A scent collection kit includes: a scent retention element; and a scent storage element adapted to house the scent retention element.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a specimen collecting and testing apparatus and a method for testing the specimen using said apparatus, and more particularly concerns a specimen and testing apparatus for collecting urine specimen use in drug screening program wherein said apparatus has tamper-proof features to prevent adulteration or substitution and a method of using the same. This apparatus also provides a novel arrangement for retaining the specimen collected having tamper-proof features and is also leak proof and easy to handle.
Abstract:
A kit is provided for gathering biological specimens. The kit generally comprises a self-contained specimen gathering device including a protective housing and a preservation solution. Also provided is a method of gathering specimens and a holistic method of deterring crime using the kit.
Abstract:
Apparatus for collecting, transporting and storing biological specimens includes a base (120) with a tray portion (132), a removable substrate (140) and a lid (150) movable between open and closed positions.
Abstract:
A device and method of securing an original biological specimen collection absorbent within a holder to permit use of the absorbent within automatic specimen analysis devices and to permit continuance of a chain of custody is provided.
Abstract:
A sample collection and testing system comprises a collection device (22) and a core device (24). The collection device comprises a main body (26) and a number of interchangeable sampling apparatuses (42). The core device (24) comprises a sample distributor and a number of independent testing strips that can simultaneously perform different tests on the same sample. Vents (102) are provided to enhance wicking of sample through the test strips. In addition, a sample retention chamber or pocket (94) is provided to maintain an unadulterated portion of the sample for subsequent retesting or confirmatory testing, for instance.
Abstract:
A device for collection of DNA-containing materials is provided and a method of preventing DNA specimen contamination is provided which prevents extraneous DNA found in DNA evidence collection kits from interfering with DNA specimen analysis, further a device an method is provided for collecting the DNA-containing material of a subject from the subject's skin.
Abstract:
A collection and testing cup for fluid characterization is disclosed. The cup has a lid assembly with a tamper evident closure; a cylinder that extends into the fluid in the collection cup, also with a tamper evident closure; a piston with a conduit and one-way valve through which a portion of the fluid can be forced into an isolation chamber separate from the main collection cup for testing. The lid assembly cylinder is configured with an aperture or passage near the bottom of the cylinder to allow a small portion of fluid to enter the lower portion of the cylinder from the collection cup chamber and a piston with a central conduit and valve initially positioned near the top of the cylinder adjacent to the lid. The piston, when pushed down the cylinder, closes the aperture communicating with collection cup chamber and forces a predetermined volume of fluid from the lower portion of the cylinder through the conduit and valve to the upper portion of the cylinder, isolating a portion of the fluid sample from the fluid in the collection cup chamber. The valve prevents the fluid from returning to the lower portion of the cylinder and to the collection cup chamber. A testing device may be inserted into the fluid sample at the upper portion of the piston for characterization of one or more analytes in the fluid sample.
