The monitoring apparatus for monitoring at least one processing tool during processing of an effluent stream from a semiconductor processing tool, comprises: reception logic operable to receive processing characteristic data generated during the processing of the effluent stream; segregation logic operable to segregate the processing characteristic data into contributing processing characteristic data associated with contributing periods which contribute to a condition of the at least one processing tool and non-contributing processing characteristic data associated with non-contributing periods which fail to contribute to the condition; and fault logic operable to utilise the contributing processing characteristic data and to exclude the non-contributing processing characteristic data when determining a status of the condition. In this way, only data generated during periods which contribute to the condition of the tool is used when determining a status of the condition of that tool. Other data generated during periods which do not contribute to that condition are ignored or omitted so that an accurate assessment of the status of the condition of the tool can be determined. This helps to provide an accurate and more reliable assessment of the status of the condition of the tool.

A system and method for predicting failures of machinery such as a gas turbine. The system and method utilizes computer-based system to annotate historical data locate a prior failure event. Data associated with sensor readings prior to the failure event is annotated to note that it is likely associated with a failure and is compared to normal operating condition data. A fast boxes algorithm is used to learn the location of the pre-event data (positive class, minority group) with respect to the normal operation data (negative class, majority group). An evaluation is performed to analyze the discriminatory strength of the pre-event data with respect to the normal data, and if a relatively strong difference is found, the associated pre-event data is stored and used as a symptom to monitor the on-going performance of a machine and predict the possibility of an unexpected failure days before it would otherwise occur.

A plant asset failure prediction system and associated method. The method includes receiving user input identifying a first target set of equipment including a first plurality of units of equipment. A set of time series waveforms from sensors associated with the first plurality of units of equipment are received, the time series waveforms including sensor data values. A processor is configured to process the time series waveforms to generate a plurality of derived inputs wherein the derived inputs and the sensor data values collectively comprise sensor data. The method further includes determining whether a first machine learning agent may be configured to discriminate between first normal baseline data for the first target set of equipment and first failure signature information for the first target set of equipment. The first normal baseline data of the first target set of equipment may be derived from a first portion of the sensor data associated with operation of the first plurality of units of equipment in a first normal mode and the first failure signature information may be derived from a second portion of the sensor data associated with operation of the first plurality of units of equipment in a first failure mode. Monitored sensor signals produced by the one or more monitoring sensors are received. The first machine learning agent is then and activated, based upon the determining, to monitor data included within the monitored sensor signals.
