Abstract:
Embodiments described herein may fully integrate personal computing and health care into a wearable waistband having a length sensor, a pressure sensor, and a motion sensor; or into a wearable "mesh" having an array of sound sensors, which will create convenient and seamless access to a personal computer and biofeedback of the wearer. Such biofeedback from the waistband may include determining respiration rate, waist length, food quantity of a meal, sitting or sleep time, and frequency of visits to the bathroom. Such biofeedback from the mesh or array may include determining whether there is or has been damage or other issues of the heart, lungs, bones, joints, jaw, throat, arteries, digestive tract, and the like. Such biofeedback may also detect whether a person has an alergic reaction at a location, is drinking (and what volume of fluid), is walking, is jogging or is running.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for composing an illumination pattern includes a user interface (102) capable of receiving input commands (106), wherein the input commands (106) are directed to the selection of at least one illumination region (148, 150, 152 and 154). The method and apparatus further includes a processor (104) coupled to the user interface (102) to receive the user input (106) and thereupon generate input signals (108), which provided to the processor (104). The processor (104), in response to the input signals (108) thereupon generates an illumination pattern, wherein illumination pattern includes a plurality of illumination commands for a selected region (240), a selected color (244) for the selected region (240), and a timing (246) for the illumination of the selected region (240) at the selected color (244).
Abstract:
A selective call receiver (11) comprises a receiver (13) for receiving a signal, the signal comprising an address identifying the selective call receiver, a first information packet having a first information format, a second information packet having a second information format, and a control character. An output device (17) presents the first information packet in a first output mode corresponding to the first information format in response to the control character, and the second information packet in a second output mode corresponding to the second information format in response to the address or a second control character.
Abstract:
Embodiments of hybrid sensor-enabled and autonomous electric wheels can include a plurality of systems and devices integrated into a single compact hub unit that can be retrofitted into numerous types of two-wheeled bicycles. In one embodiment, an electrically motorized bicycle wheel can include a wheel rim, a wheel hub having an electric motor, a battery pack and a control unit configured to control a drive torque of the electric motor, and a plurality of wheel spokes connecting the wheel rim to the wheel hub. The electric motor, the battery pack and the control unit can be positioned within the wheel hub of the electrically motorized bicycle wheel.
Abstract:
A radio pager device includes a display having a zoomed-out multiline mode and a zoomed-in single line mode for display of at least a portion of a series of characters at a time extracted from a message having an address or identification code which is among those from which the pager is authorized to extract message data. The zoom mode is selectable on either a system basis, by default, or a message basis. The message specific zoom mode is determined by accessing display per address information stored in volatile memory and programmable by the user. In the single line mode, continuous horizontal character by character scrolling may be selected by the user and controlled by key actuation to toggle between a stationary paused state and a continuously scrolling state.
Abstract:
A paging receiver is disclosed which is compatible with transmissions from analog or digital paging transmitters. The paging receiver has a command structure which permits it to be dynamically programmable to change its functionality including programming of the channels which the paging receiver is to receive. The programmability of the channels permits the paging receiver to be used for making national, regional, remote area, local area, and sublocal area pages, and pages to a group in the local area and to switch from channels which are heavily used during peak paging times to lesser used channels. The paging receiver transmits paging receiver identification code digits in an order of increasing significance which significantly lessens power consumption for all paging receivers tuned to a particular channel channel for determining if a page is to be received which prolongs paging receiver battery life. The paging receiver displays the place of origin of pages as either being of local origin or from other areas. The paging receiver antenna is continuously tunable to permit compensation for variation in antenna gain caused by environmental factors which can seriously degrade signal strength.

Abstract:
A circuit (300) for charging a high voltage device (220) having a storage device (308) that is first charged to a threshold value by a first signal (306) having a first frequency while the high voltage device (220) is uncoupled from the circuit (220). The high voltage device (220) is coupled to the circuit (300) when the storage device (308) reaches or exceeds the threshold value, and the high voltage device (220) is charged by a second signal (304) having a second frequency lower than the first frequency.
Abstract:
A selective call receiver (Fig. 2) for receiving and displaying information in a nationwide communication system (Fig. 1) includes circuitry (40) to decode and process transmitted channel identification information. The receiver (Fig. 2) displays channel identification indicia in response to a user interrogation thereby confirming proper operation of the receiver (Fig. 2) on the system (Fig. 1) at the expected location.
