Abstract:
A method of driving an active matrix electro-wetting on dielectric (AM-EWOD) device comprises (i) setting a reference electrode to a first reference voltage; (ii) writing a set of data to array element electrodes of array elements of the device; and (iii) either (a) maintaining the voltages written to the array element electrodes until a time t 0 or (b) re-writing the set of data N-1 times (where N ≧ 2). The reference electrode is then set to a second reference voltage different from the first reference voltage, and features (i) to (iii) are repeated. When the data are first written, there is a delay between the time when the voltage on the reference electrode is transitioned and the time when a given array element is next written with data. Feature (iii) allows the time for which the correct data values are held to be increased relative to the time for which incorrect data values may possibly be held, so that the time for which an element may be in an incorrect state can be made insignificant in terms of its effect on unwantedly perturbing droplet operations.

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for recycling charge. In one aspect, a circuit may include amplifiers with power supplies provided by a capacitor voltage divider. A storage capacitor may be configured to be coupled one at a time and in parallel with individual capacitors of the voltage divider. The storage capacitor may store charge that may be reused.

A method of driving an electrowetting display device having at least one display element for displaying grey levels in respective frames. The method determines a change in grey levels of the at least one display element between subsequent frames. Depending on the grey level change the display element may be DC driven or AC driven.

A local priority-based scanning scheme that focuses scanning to areas of a display panel whose measured characteristics are under continuous change (e.g., aging or relaxation). The algorithm identifies areas or regions needing compensation, using a current measurement from a single pixel in an area as a candidate to determine whether the rest of the region needs further compensation. The algorithm thus detects newly changed areas quickly, focusing time-consuming measurements on those areas that need high attention. Optionally, neighboring pixels sharing the same state (e.g., aging or overcompensated) as the measured pixel can be adjusted automatically given the likelihood that the neighboring pixels will also require compensation if the measured pixel needs compensation.

A display device (500) is disclosed with a plurality of pixels (555), each having a pixel state (P) that is driven by a driving voltage differential (V EP ) between a pixel voltage (Vpx) applied to a pixel terminal (101) of the pixel and a common voltage (V CE ) applied to a common terminal (102) of the pixel. In a first pixel driving state, wherein pixels are driven to a first colour, a common voltage is provided to the common terminals (102) with a first polarity. In a second pixel driving state, wherein pixels are driven to a second colour, a common voltage is provided to the common terminals (102) with a second polarity opposite to the first polarity. An absolute value of the common voltage (V CE ) in the first and second pixel driving state is higher than a maximum absolute value of the column voltage (V col ) in the corresponding pixel driving state.

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus including computer programs encoded on computer storage media for producing line multiplied images with better visual appearance. The line multiplying is shifted for one of the colors of the display with respect to at least one other color of the display.
