Abstract:
A method and apparatus for automatically configuring a robotic storage media library is disclosed. The disclosed invention utilizes software to interpret signals from specially designed hardware to determine the hardware characteristics of the library at startup. The software then uses these characteristics to automatically configure the library without user intervention.
Abstract:
The invention includes a digital track format and a method for recording one or more streams of interframe compressed audiovideo data which has been synchronized to a reference clock (23A). The invention adds special "splice point" indicators (27) to recorded video material. The splice point indicators (27) are added either periodically (e.g. by recording a special reference clock) or when a discontinuity occurs in recording audiovideo data streams, splice point indicators (27) are used to determined the existence of a point of discontinuity in the recorded audiovideo data. The system and method enable pausing and later resuming recording of an audiovideo data stream such that the audiovideo data can be played back (22) with proper resynchronization at each point of discontinuity (the "pause and resume" function). The format and method also allow for recording and abrupt change from one audiovideo data stream to a different audiovideo data stream having a different clock reference, such that the two recorded sequences are spliced together as one continuous recorded sequence that can be played back (22) with resynchronization of the program audiovideo data at each splice point (the "channel change" function). As a consequence of using and added special refernce clock as a splice point indicator (27), the invention also provides random access playback.

Abstract:
An information processing device for allowing a plurality of images as editing objects to arbitrarily correspond respectively to each of a plurality of scenes constituting scenario data, wherein, when a read button (211) is operated, a material clip (212) as an editing object is displayed on a material tray (201). When a tag (271-1) is selected, a shaker window having selection buttons (281) is displayed. A scenario is allowed to correspond to each of a plurality of selection buttons (281). The number of scenes and an effect to be assigned to each scene are specified in each scenario in advance. A selection of one selection button (281) by a user selects one scenario. When a shake button (285) is operated, a specific one out of material clips (212) specified by a user in advance is selected at random, and assigned to each scene of a user-selected scenario.
Abstract:
A system that relates annotations captured at an event and continuous signal recordings, such as video recordings, of the event in such as way that once the recordings and annotations are distributed to a remote site, an operator does not have to manually identify the time intervals of individual segments that are identified in the annotations. Prior to distribution to the remote sites, the annotations that are collected for the event are processed to identify a series of time segments, including a time interval of the signal recordings. The time reference for these identified time intervals is based on the signal recordings themselves, for example, being relative to a time reference marks that are introduced into the video recordings before they are distributed to the remote site, or being based on a recorded time signal. At the remote sites, the time references for the video recordings are determined, for example by locating the time reference marks, and the distributed annotations are used to automatically segment the video recordings.
Abstract:
To record data such as image data or voice data to be continuously reproduced on a disc, a minimum continuous recording unit Ba is preset. The data are divided into minimum continuous recording units Ba and recorded in real time in free storage areas existing dispersedly on the disc. Ba is represented by the following formula: Ba = [Ri x Ro x {(N - 1) x Tr + N x Tj}]/(Ri - Ro) where Ri is an input rate to a buffer memory; Ro is an output rate from a buffer memory; N is the total number of continuously reproduced data which are recorded and reproduced simultaneously at the time of reproduction; Tj is the maximum seek time of a reproducing head, and Tr is the minimum reading time from a disc.

Abstract:
An editor which is suitable for the editing for broadcasting of video data taped and materializes the most suitable editing, according to the importance of taped details and the telecasting time. This editor keeps importance information and time record, according to the input of importance of every scene. Then, this selects the time section to be reproduced out of the video data recorded in a recording medium, based on the editing list information which is produced, according to the importance value and the instantenous information, and makes a video data record reproducing means execute the reproduction output as video data for telecasting.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an improved disc unit provided with a module (1) comprising integrated circuits and connectors (5), and devices connecting said module to a disc reader and to a computer. A connection head (2) provided with connectors (4), a bus (3) and an input/output controller E/S are used. Files charged in a read only or read programmable memory of the module, keys, devices for testing the keys, coding frames, devices for forbidding or authorizing reading allow to achieve a good protection against pirating of commercial softwares as well as a perfect confidentiality.
