Abstract:
Information is captured from a rendered document with a handheld document data capture device. Electronic information associated with the rendered document is applied to determine the system's actions and/or behaviors in response to the data capture. In some embodiments, the electronic information is markup data or an action map associated with the rendered document. In some embodiments, an electronic counterpart corresponding to the rendered document is located, and information associated with the electronic counterpart is applied to determine actions and/or behaviors available to a user of the handheld document data capture device.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A facility for initiating a purchase is descnbed The facility receives a text sequence captured by a user from a rendered document using a handheld text capture device (Fig 10, "1OOl") The facility identifies in the received text sequence a reference to a distinguished product In response to identifying the reference, the facility presents to the user an opportunity to place an order for the established product (Fig 10, "1114") If the user accepts the presented opportunity to order the distinct product, the facility orders the distinct product on behalf of the user (Fig 10, "1020").
Abstract:
A system for processing a text capture operation is described. The system receives text captured from a rendered document in the text capture operation. The system also receives supplemental information distinct from the captured text. The system determines an action to perform in response to the text capture operation based upon both the captured text and the supplemental information.
Abstract:
A system for processing a visual capture operation as described. The system receives an indication of a visual capture operation performed from a rendered document. The indication specifies both a text sequence capture as part of the capture operation and a supplemental marking captured as part of the capture operation. The system determines an action to perform in response to receiving the indication, based both upon the text sequence specified in the indication and the supplemental markings specified by the indication.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of sending and receiving facsimile communications, comprising: a) providing a local area network comprising a plurality of user personal computer terminals (10) and a printer (48); b) providing a router (14) adapted to connect the local area network to the Internet; c) providing a fax controller connected to the local area network and comprising: i) a fax modem (30) connected to a public telephone line; ii) a scanner (26); iii) a computer (20) programmed with fax telecommunications software provided with an account number and password for an Internet fax service, and scanning and billing software; d) downloading the fax telecommunications software to one of the user terminals; e) preparing a fax communication at the user terminal, including a billing code; f) sending the fax communication through the fax modem (30) if the fax communication is to a local, and through the Internet router (14) to the Internet facsimile service if the fax communication is to a long distance number; g) storing on the fax controller billing information respecting the fax communication, including the billing code, the recipient fax number and the number of pages sent.
Abstract:
The invention describes a machine which when activated by coins, credit cards, smart cards or other approved cards reproduces the image of a person, object, document, photography etc. on an information carrying media such as paper, plastic sheet etc. The image is first displayed on a video-monitor visible to the user, and can be adjusted, enlarged or placed on a chosen background by the use of a keyboard and instructions in the form of sound and/or signs/text on an information display. After editing of the signals by an image processing unit, the final reproduction of the image is produced with the use of a high resolution colour printer.
Abstract:
The system for managing images comprises means for capturing images (1); means for printing said images (2); and paying means (3); and it is characterized in that it also comprises means for transmitting said images (4) to one or more external screens (5) placed at a distance from said means for capturing images (1). The method for managing images comprises the steps of capturing one or more images; visualizing said one or more images; and it is characterized in that said one or more images are transmitted to one or more external screens placed at a distance from the place where said images are captured. It permits to print the image only after its visualization, and only if the user wants to print the image.
Abstract:
In an image processing system, a charging process for an executed print process is executed using one of a first charging method and a second charging method. Especially, when executing a print process of an image including a plurality of pages, it is determined before the start of the print process of the image including the plurality of pages on the basis of balance information managed in advance whether execution of the print process of the image including the plurality of pages is possible. When the first charging method is selected, execution of the print process is controlled on the basis of the result of determination. When the second charging method is selected, the print process is executed without determination.
