Abstract:
A membrane enclosed fluid diffusion system for insect attractants and repellents, auto thermostatic heaters, and chemical delivery using an additive and/or selectively permeable membrane that interacts with the enclosed fluid to maintain steady delivery rates over a range of temperature and humidity. Systems can be formed with permeable membranes, impermeable membranes, chemical hydrates, wicks, scent fluids, fuel fluids, catalytic heaters, energy conversion devices, visible images, infrared images, trapping systems, sound systems, electronics, and apparel. The device results in efficient and effective devices for mosquito control drug delivery, and portable heaters.
Abstract:
A topical insecticide is provided which can be safe to use and avoids many common deleterious side effects of conventional topical insecticides. The insecticide contains an insecticide and an insect growth regulator effective for killing fleas, flea larvae and flea eggs. The insecticide is formulated by dissolving an insecticidal (tetrahydro-3-furanyl) methylamine derivative or a chloronicotinyl insecticide and an insect growth regulator (IGR) in a solvent containing a quaternary ammonium salt to increase the solvency of the IGR component, thereby providing an insecticide having high insecticidal activity.
Abstract:
A mixture for application on an animal to provide barrier protection against insects, parasites, arachnids and/or other arthropods, and ectoparasites, and in general viruses, bacteria and/or other microorganisms is provided. The mixture includes a carrier or combination of carriers, especially mineral oil, that at least after application has an absolute or resultant viscosity of from 100 to 1200, and especially greater than 120, and especially 300 to 650 S.U.S.. The mixture also includes an insecticide, ectoparasitide, insect or other arthropod growth regulator (IGR), viricide bacteriacid and/or bacteriostatic compound that is blended with the carrier and that acts non-systemically. The mixture contains essentially no surfactant, emulsifier, or emulsifying agent, either in solution or suspension.
Abstract:
Novel formulations of DEET are provided which comprise liposomes and other carriers. Methods and materials for preventing Schistomiasis and other parasitic and microbial diseases are also provided. Also provided are improved materials and methods for repelling biting insects.
Abstract:
Ectoparasites, such as fleas, ticks, mites and lice, are removed from a human or animal host after applying a fluid composition that causes the temperature of the treated area to become higher or lower than normal. In one embodiment, treatment is effected by applying a composition that releases heat when contacted with water. The elevated or decreased temperature immobilizes the parasites and facilitates their mechanical removal, such as by combing.
Abstract:
The present invention provides non-peptide organic compounds that have a structure analogous to or reminiscent of the TMOF structure and have pesticidal activity. Thus the present invention concerns pesticidal compounds that inhibit digestion in pests by terminating or otherwise blocking synthesis of digestive enzymes by activating a TMOF receptor (collectively referred to herein as "pesticidal compounds"). The pesticidal compounds and other compounds of the present invention are usefully employed in the control of pests, particularly insect pests such as mosquitoes, which ingest blood.

Abstract:
The subject invention pertains to novel pest control compounds. Specifically exemplified herein are peptides having 2 to 5 amino acids. The subject peptides are useful against a variety of pests, including pests of agricultural crops.
Abstract:
