Abstract: A syringe nasal atomizer, aimed at medicating the airways, of the type which allows topical treatment s of the nasal and sinus cavities, introducing the liquid contained in the syringe into a nostril by pushing the piston, characterized in that, unlike what is known, in addition to the ostiomeatal complex (COM) and the sphenoethmoidal recess (RSE), it also allows the administration of a liquid intranasally on the nasopharynx (RF), thus ensuring a modular and progressive dispensing for the entire application time. Such a result is obtained as the atomizer is structured so as to allow the formation of liquid particles or micelles of a size between 70 and 10 microns, with an oversized cumulative percentage of mass with respec t to 10 microns of over 98%, which experimentally allows the same micelles to reach the nasopharynx in order to medicate the whole rhino-sinus-pharyngeal district, but minimizes the risk that they can reach the lower respiratory tract.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a nebulizer comprising of a medicine cup reservoir containing an aqueous pirfenidone solution a medicine cup reservoir cap, an aerosol generator, an aerosol mixing chamber to which freshly generated aerosol resides until inhaled, a one-way inhalation valve, a mouthpiece and a one-way exhalation valve. The invention allows atmospheric pressure to be maintained inside the medicine cup reservoir during nebulization and optimizes the volume of the aerosol mixing chamber to minimize freshly generated aerosol inter-droplet collision, impaction of aerosol to the aerosol mixing chamber wall, droplet growth and/or condensation during exhalation, prior to inhalation, or during inhalation. The larger aerosol mixing chamber volume also allows the aerosol to accumulate during the exhalation phase. Despite venting producing a larger generated aerosol droplet population mean compared to the non-vented aerosol generator, The combined effect of the invention increases device output rate of respirable aerosol droplets, increases pirfenidone Cmax and AUC to improve treatment or prevention of various diseases, including disease associated with the lung, heart and kidney, including fibrosis, inflammatory conditions and transplant rejection.

Abstract: A medical device that includes a handle for conveying an agent having particles and a receiver having a first lumen defined by a first end and a second end. The receiver having an axis extending between the first end and the second end. The first end configured to receive the particles from the handle, and the second end in fluid communication with a second lumen having a cross-sectional dimension smaller than a cross-sectional dimension of the first lumen. Each of the cross- sectional dimensions of the first lumen and the second lumen is measured transverse to the axis. The second end is configured to receive the particles from the first end of the receiver. The second lumen is configured to control delivery of the agent to a delivery conduit in fluid communication with the second lumen based on sizes of the particles.
