Abstract: The invention is an inhalation device for delivering an atomized mixture of liquids with a regulated mixing ratio, comprising - two reservoirs storing a liquid, - for each reservoir a piezoelectric actuator (10a, 10b) for atomizing the liquid, and a liquid transferring member being in contact with the liquid and the piezoelectric actuator (10a, 10b), and - a pressure sensor (16a, 16b) for detecting a user inhalation, - a regulating electric circuit comprising a controller (18) generating an output PWM signal having a duty cycle, and an output stage (20a, 20b) comprising - an inductor (12a, 12b) forming a resonant circuit with the piezoelectric actuator (10a, 10b), and - a switch (14a, 14b) for driving the output stage (20a, 20b) by the output PWM signal, - the mixing ratio of the atomized liquids is determined by the duty cycles of the output PWM signals.

Abstract: Es wird ein Vernebler vorgestellt mit einer Dosiereinheit zur Bereitstellung einer vorgegebenen Menge eines Therapeutikums, wobei das Therapeutikum in einem mittels Druck zu öffnenden Portionsbehälter zugeführt wird; wobei die Dosiereinheit eine Aufnahmekammer mit einer Dosieröffnung zur Abgabe des Therapeutikums, einer Öffnung zum Einführen eines Portionsbehälters und einen Verschlusskörper für die Öffnung aufweist; wobei der Verschlusskörper eingerichtet ist, von einer offenen Position, in welcher der Verschlusskörper die Öffnung freigibt, in einer geschlossene Position bewegt zu werden, in welcher der Verschlusskörper die Öffnung verschließt; und wobei der Verschlusskörper ferner eingerichtet ist, von der geschlossenen Position in eine Entleerungsposition bewegt zu werden, in welcher der Verschlusskörper einen Druck auf den Portionsbehälter ausübt, um diesen zu öffnen und das Therapeutikum freizusetzen. Weiterhin wird ein Verneblersystem vorgestellt mit einer Basiseinheit und wenigstens einem Verneblerkopf und/oder wenigstens einer Dosiereinheit, welche mit der Basiseinheit kombiniert werden können, um einen funktionsbereiten Vernebler zu bilden, wobei die wenigstens eine Dosiereinheit, ein in die Dosiereinheit einzulegender Portionsbehälter, und/oder der wenigstens eine Verneblerkopf mit einem Identifikationsmerkmal ausgerüstet sind, wobei die Basiseinheit eine Steuerungseinheit umfasst, welche eingerichtet ist, das Identifikationsmerkmal eines Verneblerkopfes, einer Dosiereinheit, und/oder eines Portionsbehälters zu registrieren, wobei ferner die Steuerungseinrichtung eingerichtet ist, anhand des Identifikationsmerkmals festzustellen, ob der Betrieb des Verneblerkopfes, der Dosiereinheit, und/oder des Portionsbehälters mit der Basiseinheit zulässig ist, und wobei der Verneblerkopf ein Mesh-Vernebler ist.

Abstract: A nebulizer (1) has an aerosol generator (5) mounted in a housing (3), and has a vibratable aperture plate (41) mounted to an annular support (40) and to which is attached a vibration generator piezo (46). A downstream annular resilient seal (43) is mounted between the housing and the washer (40) on a side of the aperture plate opposed to the liquid supply reservoir (21). An upstream resilient seal (48) is in the form of a gasket and is mounted between the washer (40) and the housing reservoir (21), and has an opening (72) forming part of a throat (8) over the aperture plate (41). The gasket (48) has a washer-shaped body (70) extending radially from a downstream-extending rim (71) adjacent the aperture plate (41). There are two upwardly-directed ridges (74, 75) for engagement with a housing (21) surface, and the gasket is configured so that when under axial compression the opening (72) internal surface is tapered inwardly in a flow direction to form a funnel shape. The gasket may be textured with sufficient surface roughness to deter bubbles from attaching to a surface exposed to the throat.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a nebulizer comprising of a medicine cup reservoir containing an aqueous pirfenidone solution a medicine cup reservoir cap, an aerosol generator, an aerosol mixing chamber to which freshly generated aerosol resides until inhaled, a one-way inhalation valve, a mouthpiece and a one-way exhalation valve. The invention allows atmospheric pressure to be maintained inside the medicine cup reservoir during nebulization and optimizes the volume of the aerosol mixing chamber to minimize freshly generated aerosol inter-droplet collision, impaction of aerosol to the aerosol mixing chamber wall, droplet growth and/or condensation during exhalation, prior to inhalation, or during inhalation. The larger aerosol mixing chamber volume also allows the aerosol to accumulate during the exhalation phase. Despite venting producing a larger generated aerosol droplet population mean compared to the non-vented aerosol generator, The combined effect of the invention increases device output rate of respirable aerosol droplets, increases pirfenidone Cmax and AUC to improve treatment or prevention of various diseases, including disease associated with the lung, heart and kidney, including fibrosis, inflammatory conditions and transplant rejection.
