Abstract: The present invention includes an indwelling urinary catheter operable for flushing fluid through the urethra. The catheter has an elongated tubular catheter body, a discharge lumen disposed within the catheter body operable for discharging urine from a patient, a fluid flush lumen disposed within the catheter body operable to receive a flushing fluid, and at least one permeable sheath in fluid communication with the fluid flush lumen, wherein a plurality of protrusions of variable shapes, sizes, and arrangements are disposed on the outer surface of the sheath and are operable to create space between the catheter body and the urethra for improved flushing. Alternative embodiments include circumferential ridges and eluting pores disposed on the outer surface of the sheath wherein the distance and height between the ridges as well as the density of the eluting pores decrease in the direction of the proximal end of the sheath.

Abstract: A probe delivery device can include a probe delivery mechanism that facilitates advancing a probe (153) through an IV catheter. The probe delivery mechanism can be housed within a compartment (120) of the probe delivery device and can include a probe that extends from the compartment into a fluid pathway (110) formed within the probe delivery device. A portion of the probe delivery mechanism (150) can extend out from the housing to enable a clinician to advance and retract the probe. The probe delivery device may include a vacuum tube receiver (130) or a connector to enable a blood draw or fluid injection to be performed using the probe delivery device.

Abstract: An IV device assembly may include a lumen (102) forming a fluidic channel within the IV device assembly. The lumen may be fluidically coupled to a vascular access device (VAD) coupler via a funnel coupler (106), and an IV device assembly coupler (108) at a proximal end of the lumen. The IV device assembly may also include one or more of the following: a collapsible sleeve (122) formed coaxially around a first portion of the lumen and mechanically coupled to the funnel coupler, a patency instrument (112) formed along a second portion of the lumen within the collapsible sleeve and into the VAD coupler, a translation handle (114) that translates the patency instrument out of a distal end of the VAD coupler, and a fixed grip (116) formed around the lumen to maintain a position of the IV device assembly relative to the translation handle.

Abstract: A vascular access system can have a probe with a dynamically expandable distal end. The dynamically expandable probe can be inserted through a catheter while the catheter is positioned intravenously to facilitate fluid flow into or out from the catheter such as by moving an occlusion away from the catheter tip, removing an occlusion, accessing additional sources of blood and/or repositioning the catheter tip. Because it is dynamically expandable, the probe can minimize the likelihood that it will become occluded while it is inserted intravenously and may provide control over the rate of fluid flow into or out from the catheter.
