    Abstract: The invention provides a catheter assembly (1) comprising a guide extension catheter (GEC) and a trapping balloon catheter (TBC). The GEC (10) comprises a GEC shaft (14) and a GEC tubular guiding portion (12). The TBC (20) comprises a TBC inflation hub (21), a TBC shaft (23) and a trapping balloon (22). The TBC further comprises a TBC guiding structure (26), which is configured to be brought in slidable guiding engagement with the GEC shaft. The slidability is limited by abutting engagement between the TBC guiding structure (26) and the GEC tubular guiding portion (12). According to the invention a trapping balloon catheter can be advanced very quickly inside an assembly of a guide catheter and a GEC without risk of advancing the trapping balloon out of the distal end of the GEC.

    Abstract: A vascular access device may include an advancement element and a housing. The housing may include a lumen extending therethrough, which may be used for blood collection. The vascular access device may include a pair of opposing pinch members configured to pinch the housing. The pair of opposing pinch members may be configured to move along the housing with the advancement element. The vascular access device may include a guidewire, which may include a wedge. In response to moving the advancement element distally along the housing, the pair of opposing pinch members may move the wedge distally and the guidewire may be advanced distally. The proximal end of the guidewire may include a looped portion, and in response to moving the advancement element distally along the housing, the pair of opposing pinch members may be aligned with an opening formed by the looped portion and advance the guidewire distally.

    Abstract: A vascular device insertion system includes a support catheter having a hub, a flexible elongate member that extends distally from the hub, and a catheter lumen that extends through the hub and the flexible elongate member. An insertion module housing is configured to contain a motor having a hollow motor shaft. The hollow motor shaft has a proximal end, a distal end, a distal end portion, and an elongate opening that extends from the proximal end to the distal end. The distal end portion of the hollow motor shaft is configured to couple to the hub of the support catheter. The elongate opening of the hollow motor shaft and the catheter lumen of the support catheter together define a continuous passage. A motor controller is electrically coupled to the motor, and is configured to rotationally oscillate the hollow motor shaft to in turn rotationally oscillate the support catheter.
