Abstract: A catheter assembly includes a shaft with two non-communicating lumens for simultaneous inflow and outflow of fluids from a vein. A return lumen extends to an outlet assembly at the tip. A draw lumen includes an inlet assembly, proximally of the outlet assembly, with multiple openings to avoid blockage causing pressure elevation due to suction. The draw lumen has a larger crescent-shape profile while the return lumen has a smaller, circular profile within the arms of the crescent shape.

Abstract: A vascular access device (10) to passively open a fluid path within a vasculature. The vascular access device (10) includes a catheter (20) and an obturator (50) slidably positioned within the lumen (32) of the catheter (20). The catheter (20) has a proximal end (22), a distal tip (24) comprising an opening (28) having an inner diameter and a sidewall (26) defining a lumen between the proximal end and distal tip. The obturator (50) has a distal end (52) with an outer diameter configured to form an interference fit with the inner diameter of the distal tip (24). The obturator may be positioned within the lumen to open various fluid pathways (36,38,72).

Abstract: The present invention includes an indwelling urinary catheter operable for flushing fluid through the urethra. The catheter has an elongated tubular catheter body, a discharge lumen disposed within the catheter body operable for discharging urine from a patient, a fluid flush lumen disposed within the catheter body operable to receive a flushing fluid, and at least one permeable sheath in fluid communication with the fluid flush lumen, wherein a plurality of protrusions of variable shapes, sizes, and arrangements are disposed on the outer surface of the sheath and are operable to create space between the catheter body and the urethra for improved flushing. Alternative embodiments include circumferential ridges and eluting pores disposed on the outer surface of the sheath wherein the distance and height between the ridges as well as the density of the eluting pores decrease in the direction of the proximal end of the sheath.

Abstract: The distal tip structure of a rapidly insertable central catheter (RICC) can be required to perform different functions from that of the remaining, multi-luminal section, of the RICC catheter. As such, the catheter body can be formed of a first material and the distal tip structure can be formed of a second material. Forming the RICC requires joining these two materials while maintaining a smooth abluminal surface. A bifurcated plug including a second material can be placed within a first lumen or second lumen of the catheter body. A mandrel can be placed within a third lumen. The assembly can then be placed within a die to plastically deform the bifurcated plug into a distal tip structure. Advantageously, only a single structure is required to plug the lumen and form the distal tip structure, reducing complexity and associated costs.

Abstract: Rapidly insertable central catheters ("RICCs") including catheter assemblies and methods thereof are disclosed. A RICC assembly (100) can include a RICC (102), an introducer (104), and a coupling system (106) configured to couple the RICC and the introducer together. A catheter tube (108) of the RICC can include a side aperture (114) in a distal-end portion of the catheter tube, which opens into an introducing lumen (118) extending from the side aperture to a distal end of the RICC. The introducer can include an introducer needle (128) having a cannula (138). The coupling system can include a distal coupler (146) slidably attached to the catheter tube proximal of the side aperture. The cannula extends through a longitudinal through hole of the distal coupler, through the side aperture of the catheter tube, along the introducing lumen of the catheter tube, and through the distal end of the RICC when the RICC assembly is in a ready-to- deploy state thereof.
