Abstract: Apparatus for locating an incision on a patient, the apparatus comprising: an elongate guide element for guiding a cutting tool to a location at a distal end of the guide element; an optical emitter for emitting an optical beam, the optical emitter being attached to the guide element so that the beam is directed to the distal end of the guide element; and an incision location template slidably attached to the guide element, the incision location template comprising a first feature adapted to be optically correlated with an anatomical feature of the patient and a second feature adapted to be optically aligned with an impingement point of the beam on the patient.

Abstract: A breath detection apparatus for monitoring individual breaths of a patient. The apparatus includes a sensing assembly comprising a humidity sensor. The sensing assembly adapted to be connected to an oxygenation device wherein respiratory gases of a patient are directed over the sensing assembly and the humidity sensor is adapted to monitor differences in humidity during a breath of the patient. The humidity sensor generates an electrical signal representing a humidity level in response to measuring the humidity during the breath. The apparatus also includes a processor in electrical communication with the sensing assembly to receive electrical signals generated by the humidity sensor and determine a state of the relative humidity during the breath, and a visual display element controlled by the processor and adapted to display a predetermined visual alert in response to the state of the relative humidity during the breath.

Abstract: A method includes emitting an acoustic signal into an airway of a user. The method further includes, detecting an acoustic reflection of the acoustic signal caused by one or more physical features within the airway of the user. The method also includes analyzing acoustic data associated with the acoustic reflection. The method also further includes characterizing an occurrence of the physical obstruction in the airway of the user. The characterization is based, at least in part, on the analyzed acoustic data. The characterization is indicative of an apnea event or a hypopnea event in the user, wherein the apnea event comprises an obstructive apnea event, a central apnea event or a mixed apnea event, and further distinguishes between the occurrence of the obstructive apnea event, the central apnea event, the mixed apnea event or the hypopnea event in the user.

Abstract: A user interface of a respiratory therapy system includes a strap assembly, a frame, a connector, and a sensor. The strap assembly is positioned about a head of a user when the user wears the user interface. The frame is physically and electrically connected to the strap assembly, and defines an aperture. The connector has a first end portion and second end portion. The first end portion of the connector can be positioned within the aperture of the frame such that the connector is physically and electrically connected to the frame. The sensor is coupled to the strap assembly or the frame such that the sensor abuts a target area of the user when the user wears the user interface.

Abstract: The present disclosure pertains to a system and method for monitoring lung disease in a patient that is based on information that is derivable from home therapy devices including a ventilation therapy device and an oxygen saturation monitor such as a pulse oximeter. The measured parameters are used to model shunt fraction and a volume of dead space. Based on changes in gas exchange and results of a nitrogen washout test, a change in gas exchange impairment in the patient is observed and is then used to determine progression of a disease, identify a cause of the impairment, and/or to guide treatment of the patient.
