Abstract: A blended polymer comprising, an amorphous thermoplastic polymer and a thermoplastic semi-crystalline polymer, each of the polymers being essentially miscible in the other and being blended at a weight ratio of amorphous polymer/semi-crystalline polymer of greater that 0.05 to about 20 forms a melt blown nonwoven fabric having essentially no defects with long fiber lengths having uniform diameters. The nonwoven fabrics when used as a filter may have greater than 95% efficiency at a pressure drop of less than 2 mm Hg even after being exposed to high temperatures (~70°C) for an hour or more.

Abstract: This disclosure describes a filtration composite that includes multiple layers of filtration media. In some embodiment, the filtration composite is preferably substantially glass-free or glass-free. When the composite is glass-free or substantially glass-free, the composite preferably exhibits capacity and efficiency comparable to or better than similar glass-containing filtration media. The composite includes a first nonwoven filtration medium including bicomponent fibers, efficiency fibers having a fiber diameter in a range of 1 micron to 5 microns, and microfibrillated fiber; an optional second nonwoven filtration medium; and a third nonwoven filtration medium including efficiency fibers having a fiber diameter of at least 0.1 micron and less than 1 micron.

Abstract: A composite filtering medium comprising a precision fabric, of the type with weft and warp, on the surface of which nanofibres are deposited by electrospinning. A method for producing the composite filtering medium, comprising a step of electrospinning for formation of nanofibres and a subsequent step of deposition of said nanofibres on a base fabric; the method comprises injection of the material for formation of the nanofibres, dissolved in a solvent or mixture of solvents, through a nozzle in order to spread it on an electrode; the method comprising application of a difference of potential between the nozzle and an electrode; the nanofibres being formed as a result of evaporation of the solvent or mixture of solvents, due to the electrical field, and stretching of the polymer deposited on the electrode, by means of the nozzle; the nanofibres thus formed being subsequently stretched and deposited on said base fabric.

Abstract: A filter medium for removing contaminants from water includes a matrix including a plurality of fibers having an electrostatic charge such that the matrix is configured to remove contaminants from water by electrostatic attraction. The filter medium further includes a filler material including a ceramic substrate containing a mineral. The filler material is embedded in the matrix. When water flows through the filter medium, the mineral at least partially dissolves in the water such that a cavity is formed in the matrix in a location of the at least partially dissolved mineral.

Abstract: Filter media, including those suitable for hydraulic, fuel, HVAC, HEPA, and/or other applications, and related methods are provided. In some embodiments, a filter media described herein may include a layer (e.g., a fine fiber layer) comprising a plurality of fibers comprising polyamide 11. In some embodiments, a filter media comprises a layer (e.g., a fine fiber layer) comprising a plurality of electro spun fibers comprising a material having one or more advantageous properties. In an exemplary set of embodiments, the plurality of fibers comprise polyamide 11 (e.g., Nylon 11). In some embodiments, the polyamide 11 fibers are produced by an electro spinning process.
