Abstract: This disclosure describes a filtration medium that is preferably glass-free or substantially glass-free. In some embodiments, the filtration medium preferably exhibits capacity and efficiency comparable to or better than similar glass-containing filtration media. The filtration medium includes bicomponent fibers, efficiency fibers (for example, PET fibers), and microfibrillated fibers. The efficiency fibers include fibers having a fiber diameter in a range of 1 micron to 5 microns and fibers having a fiber diameter of at least 0.1 micron and less than 1 micron.

Abstract: A biodegradable filter is provided with at least two outer layers formed from cellulosic-based fibres, bast fibres, protein -based fibres, and/or polyvinyl alcohol fibres. A non-woven nanofibre filtration membrane is located between the two outer layers, and has an areal density in the range of from 0.2 to 10 g/m2. The outer layers may include a thermoplastic additive and/or a thermoplastic layer may be located between the filtration membrane and the outer layers.

Abstract: Es wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung einer Faserstoffbahn enthaltend Polylactide-Fasern und ggf. weitere Fasern beansprucht, in welchem (a) eine Faserlage enthaltend Polylactid-Fasern und ggf. weitere Fasern in wirrer Faseranordnung auf eine Unterlage gelegt wird, (b) durch Ausüben eines ersten Drucks auf die Faserlage zunächst ein lockeres, vorverdichtetes Vlies, dessen Reißfestigkeit das freihängende Überbrücken einer Spannweite zwischen 0,1 m und 1 m bis zum Reißen des Vlieses erlaubt, (c) das vorverdichtete Vlies anschließend durch den Spalt eines Kalanders hindurchgeführt wird, wobei in dem Spalt ein Muster aus punkt- oder linienförmigen Druckbereichen erzeugt wird, wobei die Fasern in den Druckbereichen einem solchen zweiten Druck, welcher höher als der erste Druck ist, und einer solchen Temperatur ausgesetzt werden, dass eine Fusion der Fasern eintritt. Es können biologisch abbaubare Faserstoffbahnen, die Polylactid-Fasern und ggf. weitere Fasern enthalten, hergestellt werden, die eine gute Nassfestigkeit auch im Gemisch mit anderen Fasern, beispielsweise Cellulosefasern, aufweisen. Auch ist es möglich die Faserstoffbahn in eine formstabile dreidimensionale Form zu überführen.

Abstract: This disclosure describes a filtration composite that includes multiple layers of filtration media. In some embodiment, the filtration composite is preferably substantially glass-free or glass-free. When the composite is glass-free or substantially glass-free, the composite preferably exhibits capacity and efficiency comparable to or better than similar glass-containing filtration media. The composite includes a first nonwoven filtration medium including bicomponent fibers, efficiency fibers having a fiber diameter in a range of 1 micron to 5 microns, and microfibrillated fiber; an optional second nonwoven filtration medium; and a third nonwoven filtration medium including efficiency fibers having a fiber diameter of at least 0.1 micron and less than 1 micron.

Abstract: An entrainment-based filtering system for use in connection with a facemask or respirator that includes: a filter housing defining an interior volume comprising at least one airflow pathway having an airflow pathway length that is longer than the length of the interior volume and spaced within the interior volume; and a plurality of entrainment substrates. The plurality of entrainment substrates is positioned within the at least one airflow pathway and the plurality of substrates and the dimensions of the at least one airflow pathway together function to entrain particles on the surface of the chemically coated entrainment substrates and prevent at least 95% of particles traveling through the at least one airflow pathway from exiting the entrainment-based filter.

Abstract: This disclosure describes filter media and mask filters and face mask systems including those filter media. In one aspect, the filter media includes a fibrous media including multi- component binder fibers, glass fibers, and microfibrillated cellulose fibers. In some aspects, the fibrous media further includes PET fibers. In another aspect, the filter media includes an electrostatically charged filter media, a fine fiber layer, and a scrim. In yet another aspect, the filter media includes two fine fiber layers, and two scrims. In additional aspects, the filter media includes bicomponent fibers, polyethylene terephthalate fibers, and microfibrillated cellulose fibers. In a further aspect, the filter media includes a support layer, a continuous fine fiber layer, and an efficiency layer. Combinations and composites of the filter media are also contemplated.
