The method includes the step of placing the ammonia/ammonium chloride buffer solution in a vessel, which contains a desiccant entrained polymer material not in direct contact with the ammonia/ ammonium chloride buffer solution. The desiccant entrained polymer material is made of a base polymer, a desiccant, and a channeling agent. The invented method maintains the properties of the buffer solution by regulating the amount of ammonia and/or moisture absorption by the desiccant entrained polymer.
