Abstract: Described herein are details for designing and manufacturing enhanced shock and impact resistant helicoidal lay-ups by combining nanomaterials, variable pitch and partial spirals, Thin unidirectional fiber plies, hybrid materials, and/or curved fibers within a ply. The helicoidal structures created in the prescribed manners can be tuned and pitched to desired wavelengths to dampen propagating shock waves initiated by ballistics, strike forces or foreign material impacts and can arrest the propagation of fractures including catastrophic fractures. These enhancements open the helicoidal technology up for use in such applications as consumer products, protective armor, sporting equipment, crash protection devices, wind turbine blades, cryogenic tanks, pressure vessels, battery casings, automotive/aerospace components, construction materials, and other composite products.

Abstract: Land vehicles, powertrain units for land vehicles, and methods of using land vehicles are disclosed herein. In certain embodiments, the land vehicles are provided as delivery vehicles and/or utility vehicles. A land vehicle includes a frame structure having a front cage that defines an operator cabin and a rear floor positioned rearward of the front cage. The frame structure supports a plurality of wheels to permit movement of the vehicle relative to an underlying surface in use of the land vehicle. An underside of the frame structure is disposed in confronting relation with the underlying surface.

Abstract: A three-dimensional printing method is provided. The method comprises supplying a polymer composition to an extruder system and selectively dispensing the polymer composition through an extruder nozzle to form a three-dimensional structure. The polymer composition comprises a plurality of reinforcing fibers embedded and distributed within a thermoplastic polymer matrix, wherein the thermoplastic polymer matrix constitutes from about 20 wt.% to about 90 wt.% of the composition and the reinforcing fibers constitute from about 10 wt.% to about 80 wt.% of the composition.
