Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung einer Pelletierpresse und eine Pelletierpresse zur Herstellung von Pellets (10) aus zu verpressendem Material, wobei in der Pelletierpresse (3) mittels zumindest einer abrollenden Walze (5) das zu verpressende Material durch die Bohrungen (13) einer mittels zumindest eines Antriebes (18) bewegbaren Matrize (4) und/oder einer bewegbaren Walze (5) zu Pellets (10) verpresst wird. Die Erfindung besteht für die Pelletierpresse darin, dass dass zumindest ein Antrieb (18) als Direktantrieb mit einem Rotor (25) und zumindest einem Stator (24) ausgeführt ist und dass bei einer bewegbaren Matrize (4) der Rotor (25) des Direktantriebes mit der Matrize (4) und/oder im Wesentlichen mit der Stützkonstruktion der Matrize (4) wirkverbunden ist und/oder dass bei bewegbaren Walzen (5) der Rotor (25) des Direktantriebes mit den Achsen (16) der Walzen (5) oder einer mitumlaufenden Stützkonstruktion der Walzen (5) wirkverbunden ist. Eine alternative Ausführungsform beschreibt, dass der Rotor (25) des Antriebs zumindest an einem Teil einer koaxial zur Matrizenachse (23) liegenden Hohlwelle (27) angeordnet ist und die Hohlwelle (27) mit der Matrize (4) und/oder im Wesentlichen mit der Stützkonstruktion der Matrize (4) oder mit den Achsen (16) der Walzen (5) oder einer mitumlaufenden Stützkonstruktion der Walzen (5) wirkverbunden ist (1411).
