Abstract: The invention features a reinforcement element including a continuous paper strip having a first side and a second side, a first adhesive composition disposed on at least one of the first side and second side. The invention further features a paper reinforced tape including a continuous paper strip, a continuous paper backing layer and a first adhesive composition disposed between the continuous paper strip and the continuous paper backing layer thereby adhering the continuous paper strip to the continuous paper backing layer. The paper reinforced tapes and reinforcement elements of this invention have improved repulpability, recyclability, compostability and biodegradability. Further, these reinforcement elements and paper reinforced tapes, despite being predominately paper, unexpectedly provide excellent container reinforcement properties and further can be used as opening tapes, dosing tapes and carrying handles.

Abstract: Photovoltaic modules (100) include a front sheet (10), a back sheet (20), a photovoltaic layer (30), a first encapsulant layer (40), and a second encapsulant layer (50). The front sheet is made of or includes a composite of a thermoplastic material and a nanoparticle filler dispersed in the thermoplastic material. The thermoplastic material is a poly(methyl methacrylate) or a polycarbonate. The nanoparticle filler may include nanoparticles such as silica nanoparticles, titania nanoparticles, zirconia nanoparticles, zinc oxide nanoparticles, and combinations thereof, for example. The photovoltaic layer is interposed between the front sheet and the back sheet and includes at least one photovoltaic cell. The first encapsulant layer is interposed between the front sheet and the at least one photovoltaic cell. The second encapsulant layer is interposed between the at least one photovoltaic cell and the back sheet.

Abstract: Digitally printed laminates prepared from an aqueous primer coating composition and an aqueous pigmented inkjet printing ink wherein the primer coating composition comprises: (a) a water-dispersible polymer and a multivalent metal salt; or (b) a water-soluble polymer selected from copolymers comprising vinyl alcohol and vinyl acetate, copolymers comprising vinyl alcohol and vinyl amine, poly(vinyl pyrrolidone), copolymers comprising vinyl pyrrolidone and vinyl acetate, modified celluloses and water-soluble starches; a water-soluble aminated polymer comprising any blend of primary or secondary amines as part of its molecular structure; and a multivalent metal salt; and wherein the aqueous pigmented inkjet printing ink comprises an anionic polymeric dispersion or an anionic solution polymer.

Abstract: The invention provides a synthetic slip-resistant floor-covering material comprising a layer of synthetic material which contains one or more degradable polymeric particles wherein the one or more degradable polymeric particles comprise: (a) one or more hard degradable polymeric particles which have a hardness which is greater than the hardness of the layer of synthetic material; and optionally (b) one or more soft degradable polymeric particles which have a hardness which is the same as or less than the hardness of the layer of synthetic material; and wherein the one or more hard degradable polymeric particles comprise one or more exposed hard degradable polymeric particles which are exposed at an upper surface of the synthetic floor-covering material to provide slip-resistance; and a method of preparing a synthetic floor-covering which method comprises the steps of: Providing a layer of synthetic material; Applying the one or more degradable polymeric particles to the layer of synthetic material; and Applying pressure to the layer of synthetic material to ensure that the one or more degradable polymeric particles are incorporated into the layer of synthetic material.

Abstract: An article intended to come into contact with the ground, and the article comprising a laminate comprising at least two superposed portions comprising: a first portion (FP) made of a first rubber composition (FC); and a second portion (SP) made of a second rubber composition (SC), and the SP positioned farther from the ground than the FP; wherein the amount in phr of the reinforcing filler in the SC is lower than that in the FC; wherein the second rubber composition (SC) is such that the reinforcing filler predominately comprises a reinforcing inorganic filler; wherein the ratio of the amount in phr of the plasticizing agent to the reinforcing filler in the SC is higher than that in the FC; and wherein the average glass transition temperature of combination of the elastomer matrix and the plasticizing agent in the SC is higher than that in the FC.
