Abstract: A method of manufacture of a coated material comprising the steps of: providing a cellulosic substrate; melting a polyvinyl alcohol polymer, wherein the polyvinyl alcohol polymer has a degree of hydrolysis of 90% or greater and a melting point in the range of 180°C to 225°C; extruding the melted polyvinyl alcohol polymer to form a molten polyvinyl alcohol polymeric film; applying the molten film directly to the surface of the substrate; and allowing the film to solidify on the surface to form a coated material.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to the field of laminated packaging. In particular, the present invention relates to laminated flexible packaging comprising aluminium and a plastic sealant layer only on one side of the aluminium. One embodiment of the present invention relates to a laminated flexible packaging made at least in part from a laminated flexible packaging material comprising an aluminium foil layer, a plastic sealant layer and a coating, wherein the aluminium foil layer is laminated to the plastic sealant layer on the side facing the packaged product, the other side of the aluminium foil layer is coated with the coating but not laminated to a layer of plastic or paper, and wherein the laminated flexible packaging is manufactured from the laminated flexible packaging material on a horizontal form fill and seal (HFFS) machine.

Abstract: Provided are heat sealing, barrier laminates including polyethylene. The laminates can be adhesiveless and fully compatible with polyethylene recycling streams. They can exhibit improved, maintained, or desirable properties in comparison to existing laminate structures that are not fully compatible with polyethylene recycling streams. The laminate comprises a multilayer film and an oriented film. The oriented film is thermally laminated to the outer layer of the multilayer film to provide the laminate.

Abstract: In one embodiment, the disclosure provides a film, which may be oriented, cast, or blown, that includes a core layer having a first side and a second side, wherein the core layer comprises hydrocarbon resin and polypropylene. Further, the film may include a first tie layer on the first side, wherein the first tie layer consists of polypropylene and about 5% or less of additives with exclusion of hydrocarbon resin ("HCR"), wherein the polypropylene is standard-crystalline polypropylene, high-crystalline polypropylene, or a mixture thereof, but preferably, it is a majority of high-crystalline polypropylene. Further still, the film may include a first skin layer on the first tie layer, and, also a coating on the first skin layer, wherein the coating comprises acrylic or acetate polymers or combinations thereof. The film maintains a minimum seal temperature of 300 g in-1 seal strength as compared to the film without any HCR.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a multilayer film comprising: • an inner layer system comprising a first surface and a second surface; • a first skin layer bound to the inner layer system at the first surface of the inner layer system; and • a second skin layer bound to the inner layer system at the second surface of the inner layer system; wherein • the inner layer system comprises ≥ 50.0 wt% with regard to the total weight of the inner layer system of a first ethylene-based polymer being a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) having a density of ≥ 940 and ≤ 970 kg/m3, preferably of ≥ 960 and ≤ 970 kg/m3, as determined in accordance with ASTM D792 (2008); and • at least one or both of the first or the second skin layer(s) is a sealing layer comprising a second ethylene-based polymer being a linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) comprising polymeric moieties derived from ethylene and from 1-hexene or 1-octene, having a density of ≥ 890 and ≤ 915 kg/m3 as determined in accordance with ASTM D792 (2008), preferably wherein the sealing layer comprises ≥ 70.0 wt% of the second ethylene-based polymer or wherein the sealing layer consists of the second ethylene-based polymer; wherein the multilayer film is a bi-directionally oriented film wherein the orientation in both directions is introduced in the solid state. Such film allows for the production of a sealed package having a sufficiently high sealing strength at reduced sealing temperatures, also referred to as the seal initiation temperature, whilst also having improved tensile properties, such as demonstrated by improved tensile modulus in both machine direction as well as in transverse direction, and improved tensile strength, also in both machine direction and in transverse direction.

Abstract: An absorbent paper laminate, having an absorbent paper layer, a nonabsorbent high-density paper layer and an adhesive applied in a layer between the absorbent and nonabsorbent layers forming a laminate. The laminate has a surface which is provided with an array of perforations formed by needle punctures or a series of slits sized to allow steam to pass therethrough while retaining grease and oil in the absorbent paper layer. The preferred adhesive layer is selectively in a cellular pattern. A paper board food container can be formed having an absorbent paper laminate body defining a cavity for receiving a food item and absorb grease and oil. Optionally an exterior surface of the container is sized to be held in the hands of a user having an exterior surface with a second absorbent layer that can act as a napkin absorbing grease and oil from the hands of the user.
