An annular affixment ring includes an outer periphery which seats within an undercut formed in the rim flange. A plurality of arcuate flanges extend from the inner face of the cladding and abut the inner periphery of the ring to maintain the outer periphery of the ring within the undercut. The ring includes axial apertures and the inner face of the cladding includes retention tabs having enlarged fluked ends which extend into the apertures to anchor the cladding to the ring. The ring can be constructed of one piece or formed of interfitting arcuate segments which are interlocked in end to end relationship.

The method involves applying resist coating patterns to portions or the entire inboard surfaces of the wheel covers prior to subjecting the wheel cover to a plating process which is intended to plate the outboard surfaces of the wheel covers. The resist coating pattern prevents plating material from attaching to areas of the inboard surfaces of the wheel covers to which the resist coat has been applied or which have been framed in or outlined by the resist coating. Areas that are coated with the resist and areas that have been framed in or outlined by the resist coating are more susceptible and compatible to adhesive bonding of the wheel covers to the wheels.

In this wheel cover (2), the emblem plate (3) is designed such that it is maintained at an upright position due to a balance weight (7), regardless of a rotation of the wheel cover. The wheel cover (2) has a central depression, with the emblem plate (3) rotatably set in the central depression. The emblem plate (3) also has an emblem sheet (4) and the balance weight (7). A rotor (9) is mounted to the weight (7) such that the rotating angle of the rotor is limited within a range of about 40¡Æ. The rotor (9) prevents a rotation of the emblem plate. The wheel cover of the present invention allows observers to clearly recognize the emblem, symbol, message or figure formed on the emblem plate during rotation of the wheels.
