A beeswax and/or beehive or bee keeping equipment surface is treated with a composition containing at least one solvent, at least one surfactant and at least one oxidizing agent (e.g., peroxide), optionally also containing other components such as an oxidizing agent activator, a viscosifying agent, an enzyme and/or a pH control agent, to reduce the amount of pesticide residues on the beeswax surface and/or disinfect against any bacterial, viruses, and fungi infestation.

A description is given of compositions comprising a) one or more substances selected from the group consisting of hydrogen peroxide and hydrogen peroxide donor substances, b) water, c) one or more polymers having thickening properties and d) one or more substances selected from the group consisting of hydroxypyridones and salts thereof. The compositions are notable more particularly for their advantageous shelf lives.

Provided are stabilized aqueous solutions containing low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide as a preservative. Such solutions are effectively stabilized at pH > 8 by the use of certain biocompatible organophophorous compounds as chelating stabilizers. These ophthalmologically acceptable compositions are especially useful in buffered saline for eye care solutions either with or without ophthalmic medicinal agents.
