A system to deliver gas/vapor from solid materials. Specifically, the delivery system for the use of gas or vapor released from a solid material, such as a non-aqueous/solid hydrogen peroxide complex. The system is comprised of a delivery system that is configured to receive a plurality of disks containing the solid material and provide these disks into an injector. The injector heats the disks to produce a gas or vapor that is then provided into a chamber. The sterilization process can be done by gas or vapor alone, or in combination with plasma or ultra violet radiation. In particular, a control system automatically induces the delivery system to provide the injector with a disk and then remove the disk once the injection sequence is complete.

An apparatus and process for hydrogen peroxide vapor sterilization of medical instruments and similar devices make use of hydrogen peroxide vapor released from an inorganic hydrogen peroxide complex. The peroxide vapor can be released at room temperature and atmospheric pressure; however, the pressure used can be less than 50 torr and the temperature greater than 86 DEG C to facilitate the release of hydrogen peroxide vapor. Preferred hydrogen peroxide complexes for use in the invention include Na4P2O7.3H2O2 and KH2PO4.H2O2. The heating rate can be greater than 5 DEG C. Optionally, a plasma can be used in conjunction with the vapor.

A process for delignifying a lignocellulosic material comprising exposing the material at pH 6.0 to 9.5 to a mixture of monopersulfuric acid and a ketone of formula (I), wherein R and R are independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl and aryl, or R and R together form a carbocycle. Also disclosed is a kraft pulp delignification mixture comprising in combination: (a) water; (b) from about 0.05 to about 0.3 moles per liter of a ketone as above; (c) from about 0.0008 to about 0.50 moles per liter of monopersulfuric acid; and (d) sufficient buffer to maintain the pH between about pH 6 and about pH 9.5.

The invention provides a unique, efficient and cost-effective process for the recovery of acid from acid-rich solutions. The process of the invention utilizes a strong oxidizer, such as Caro's acid, to disintegrate or render insoluble organic or inorganic materials such as carbohydrates and complexes thereof contained in acid-rich solutions, to make efficient and simple the separation and recovery of the acid solution. The acid recovered thus obtained is free of organic matter, and containing nearly all of the acid originally contained in the acid-rich solution.
