Disclosed herein is a multilayer sintered ceramic body comprising at least one first layer comprising poly crystalline YAG, wherein the at least one first layer comprising poly crystalline YAG comprises pores wherein the pores have a maximum size of from 0.1 to 5 μm, at least one second layer comprising alumina and zirconia wherein the zirconia comprises at least one of stabilized and partially stabilized zirconia, and at least one third layer comprising at least one of YAG, alumina, and zirconia, wherein an absolute value of the difference in coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) between the at least one first, second and third layers is from 0 to 0.75 x 10-6/°C as measured in accordance with ASTM E228-17, wherein the at least one first, second and third layers form a unitary, multilayer sintered ceramic body. The present disclosure provides a method for fabricating biocompatible orthopedic prosthesis such as acetabular socket and femoral head with highest possible mechanical properties, wherein the method includes the steps of: a) providing a composite material powder, and placing the composite material powder into a mold cavity; b) applying uniform uniaxial pressure to the powder- filled mold cavity to cause the composite material powder to be compacted and formed into a green compact of acetabular socket or femoral head, and unloading the compact from the cavity; d) pre- sintering the green compact to bond the compacted powder, thereby forming a intermediate solid compact; e) machining the pre-sintered compact; f) sintering the machined compact; and g) polishing the machined compact to produce the acetabular socket or femoral head. The present disclosure further provides an apparatus for near net shape fabrication of acetabular socket and femoral head with patient-specific dimensions and a composite material for producing acetabular socket or femoral head for use in total hip prosthesis, wherein the composite material comprises: 60 to 95 % by weight of alumina; and 1 to 40 % by weight of zirconia. and preferably magnesium nitrate as sintering aid.

The present invention provides a wear resistant composition for manufacturing wear resistant component used for making grinding roll or table liner for vertical roller mill and method to manufacture the same. The composition includes 50.0-70.0% by volume of Aluminum Oxide (Al2O3); 25.0-39.0% by volume of Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2); 0.10-0.9% by volume of Titanium Oxide (TiO2); 0.10-0.9% by volume of Silica (SiO2); 0.10-0.5% by volume of Iron Oxide (Fe2O3); 0.03-0.09% by volume of Sodium Oxide (Na2O); 0.05-0.09% by volume of Calcium Oxide (CaO); 5.0-8.0% by volume of Magnesium Oxide (MgO); and 0.5-2.0% by volume of Yttrium Oxide (Y2O3). The present invention also discloses a cake, being used for manufacturing wear resistant component of vertical roller mill, comprising 85-98% by volume of the composition as defined above and 2-15% by volume of binder. Also a method of manufacturing the cake is disclosed. Further a wear resistant component for vertical roller mill comprising 2-10% by volume of the cake as defined above and 90-98% by volume of metal is disclosed.
