The present disclosure relates in its first aspect to a process of conversion of a stream comprising methane into chemicals, said process being remarkable in that it comprises the steps of providing a first stream (1, 5, 11, 15) comprising methane, providing a second stream (69) which is a hydrogen bromide-rich stream, putting into contact said first stream (15) with said second stream (69) under electrolytic bromination conditions to obtain a hydrogen stream (75) and a third stream (21) comprising at least unreacted methane, unreacted hydrogen bromide, methyl bromide and dibromomethane, and removing said dibromomethane from said third stream (21), to produce a dibromomethane stream (103) and a fourth stream (27) comprising unreacted methane, methyl bromide and unreacted hydrogen bromide; wherein the fourth stream (27) is converted into chemicals. In its second aspect, the present disclosure concerns an installation for carrying out the process of the first aspect.

The present disclosure relates to a process for converting methyl halides to C3-C5 α-olefins, said process comprising the steps of (a) providing a feedstream comprising methyl halides; (b) providing a first and second catalyst composition, said second catalyst composition comprising a metathesis catalyst; (c) contacting said feedstream with said first catalyst composition in a first reaction zone under first reaction conditions to provide a first product stream, and (d) contacting said first product stream with an olefin stream and with said second catalyst composition in a second reaction zone under second reaction conditions to provide a second product steam. The process is remarkable in that said step (c) is performed under 400°C, and in that said first catalyst composition comprises molecular sieves with a Si/Al atomic ratio between 2 and 18 and with a plurality of pores with a shape of an 8-membered ring or less.

A cost-effective and energy-efficient process is disclosed for converting a methane-containing gas to a methane sulfonyl halide comprising reacting the methane-containing gas, under illumination by a light emitting diode (LED) source, with a sulfuryl halide or a halogen in the presence of sulfur dioxide, whereby the methane sulfonyl halide is obtained for isolation or further reactions. The further reactions may sequentially include, in order, contacting the methane sulfonyl halide with a catalyst complex to form a methane monohalide; catalytically converting the methane monohalide to a value-added chemical such as an alcohol, an olefin, an aromatic, derivatives thereof, or mixtures thereof; releasing any hydrogen halide formed in the process; and converting the hydrogen halide to a halogen and recycling it for re-use.
