Abstract:
A radiation-sensitive composition can be used to prepare positive-working imageable elements having improved sensitivity and solvent resistance. These elements are useful for making lithographic printing plates and printed circuit boards. The composition includes a water-insoluble polymeric binder that has at least 20 mol % of recurring units comprising hydroxyaryl carboxylic acid ester groups, some of which can be substituted with cyclic imide moieties.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for the detection and/or measurement of a phenol comprising: (a) contacting the sample to be tested with a polymer imprinted with the phenol or an analogue thereof; and (b) measuring binding of the phenol to the polymer. The polymer may be prepared by polymerising a polymerisable monomer, to which a phenol is covalently bound by a hydrolysable linker, and subsequently removing the phenol by hydrolysis. Propofol is a preferred phenol for use in the invention.
Abstract:
Radiation curable compositions for coatings, adhesives, inks, and molded articles are disclosed. The radiation curable compositions comprise: (A) at least one polymerizable, ethylenically unsaturated compound of one of formulae (I, II, III), wherein M is one or more metal atoms of valence n, wherein n = y.w, and wherein M is optionally more than one metal atom, with the proviso that the global equivalent metal valence is n = w.y; n is an integer of about 1-6; R is a residue of a compound having anhydride and/or carboxylic acid groups with an initial equivalent carboxy equivalent functionality defined by the equation f = x + y + z, wherein f is an integer of about 2 to 30; R1 is a residue of a hydroxy-containing ethylenically unsaturated compound; R2 is H or a residue of a hydroxy-containing ethylenically unsaturated compound different from R1; R3 is a residue of a hydroxy-containing ethylenically unsaturated compound; w is the number of moieties having residue R required for metal valence n; x is an integer of about 1 to f-1; y is an integer of about 1 to 2 (the number of intramolecular carboxylates bonded to M); z is an integer of about 0 to f-2; Y is H or R3; and (B) at least one copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer or oligomer.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method for making a high solids content, low viscosity, storage stable polyvinyl acetate emulsion in the absence of a protective colloid and employing a solubilizing comonomer and at least one emulsifier.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to partially fluorinated copolymers and the production thereof. More specifically, the copolymers, which are preferably produced by a solution polymerization process, preferably have at least three units, the first unit selected from 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene and 1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene, the second unit having a polymerized monomer selected from the vinyl esters and vinyl ethers, and the third unit having a polymerized monomer derived from a hydroxyl group-containing vinyl ether. The resulting copolymer is environmentally friendly, has favorable molecular weight characteristics, and may be shipped economically in high concentration.
