A stabilized aqueous copolymer dispersion comprises a copolymer of: (a) from 60 to 90% of a vinyl ester of an alkanoic acid having from 1 to 13 carbon atoms; (b) from 2 to 20% ethylene; (c) from 0 to 30 % of an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate having 2 to 10 carbon atoms in the alkyl portion thereof; (d) from 0.1 to 5 % of a first, ethylenically unsaturated cross-linking co-monomer comprising an epoxy group and/or a silane group; (e) from 0.1 to 5 % of a second, ethylenically unsaturated cross-linking co-monomer selected from a monocarboxylic acid, a dicarboxylic acid and/or a monoester of a dicarboxylic acid; and (f) from 0.1 to 5 % of a third, polyethylenically unsaturated cross-linking co-monomer, wherein all percentages are by weight based on the total weight of the monomers (a), (b) and, where present, (c).

The present invention relates generally to radiation-curable ink formulations, and particularly, but not by way of limitation, to a family of radiation-curable ink formulations specifically for flexographic and screen printing applications. The inventive ink formulations are based on multifunctional acrylate resins formed by the reaction of acrylate monomers and oligomers with ß-keto esters (e.g., acetoacetates), ß-diketones (e.g., 2, 4-pentanedione), ß-keto amides (e.g., acetoacetanilide, acetoacetamide), and/or other ß-dicarbonyl compounds that can participate in Michael addition reactions.

La presente invención ofrece una solución a las limitaciones de los preservantes cosméticos, a través del diseño de un sistema preservante capaz de liberar lentamente la molécula con actividad antimicrobiana y ser soluble y activo en medios acuosos a pH superiores a 5, pH donde generalmente se encuentran los productos con aplicaciones cosméticas. Para llegar a ello se emplearon los principios de la formación de complejos entre moléculas pequeñas, de naturaleza electrolítica, por ejemplo, el preservante ácido benzoico y polielectrolitos catiónicos, de carácter básico en los que mediante interacciones químicas (especialmente iónicas), se obtienen nuevas entidades químicas.

Se han utilizado diferentes caminos para optimizar la contribución de cada componente en sistemas de dos monómeros para formar copolímeros, ya que las estructuras de los mismos influyen fuertemente en la composición de las cadenas de tipo A-B que se pueden formar al reaccionar. Para tres componentes, la situación se complica más si se quieren obtener secuencias específicas, porque el número posible de reacciones de crecimiento aumenta (9 para terpolímeros, en lugar de 4 para copolímeros). Una manera de forzar el contenido relativo de los componentes en las cadenas de peso molecular elevado, formadas mediante reacciones tradicionales por radicales, es utilizando un proceso semicontinuo con gradiente de alimentación, en donde comonómeros vinílicos se alimentan secuencialmente por pares (A-B y B-C), promoviendo la formación de cadenas ricas en A, cadenas ricas en B y cadenas ricas en C, además de una cierta cantidad de cadenas de copolímeros A-B y, B-C que cubran el espectro de composiciones intermedias. Las cuales actúan como compatibilizantes. Con tal estrategia se puede lograr una conjunción sinérgica de propiedades en el material final.
Abstract:
The present application describes barrier coatings and barrier films comprising copolymers and terpolymers that are soluble in aqueous solutions containing greater than or equal to 50% alcohol. The copolymers and terpolymers comprise at least one olefin derived from isopropenyl acetate and at least one unit derived from vinyl acetate and derivatives thereof. The copolymers and terpolymers are greater than 90% hydrolyzed. Barrier compositions prepared with the copolymers and terpolymers exhibit reduced oxygen transmission rates, good adhesion to substrates, good lamination bond strength, as well as other properties desirable in barrier coatings and barrier films.
