Abstract:
A curable polymer having an ethylene oxide content above 50wt% comprising a backbone and, pendant thereon, the following side chains (a) and (b): (a)side chains which comprise a poly(ethylene oxide) group and are free from ethylenically unsaturated groups; and (b)side chains which comprise an ethylenically unsaturated group; wherein the mole ratio of side chains (b):(a) is from 0.001 to 0.95.
Abstract:
A graft copolymer composition including: a polymeric backbone derived from a plurality polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomers; and a plurality of polymeric arms attached pendant to the polymeric backbone. The polymeric arms include: (a) at least two different polymeric arms comprising: a condensation copolymer arm and a random copolymer arm, (b) a polymeric arm having segments of (i) a condensation copolymer segment and (ii) a random copolymer segment, wherein said condensation copolymer segment and random copolymer segment are linked to each other; (c) or combinations thereof.
Abstract:
A new lens blocking material (adhesive composition 78) is proposed that essentially overcomes the drawbacks of previous blocking materials. This new material combines traditional UV and/or visible light (VIS) curable polymer materials with specially selected filler (s) as a non polymerizing solid in order to achieve or improve certain desirable material properties, including those of low shrinkage, low exothermic heat of polymerization, and improving the ability to deblock, while simultaneously reducing the high cost associated with such UV/VIS radiation curable materials. The new material is being used in methods for blocking a lens blank (54) onto a lens block (62) with a lens mounting face (64) that has a predetermined block curve, in which the number of different block curves required to cover the full range of standard lenses is minimized.

Abstract:
The invention provides novel thermosetting acrylic compositions, optical films, a process for making such films, and articles of manufacture produced therefrom. The invention is directed to the use of such an optical film as a substrate for flate panel visual displays such as liquid crystal displays. The materials have good optical properties including low birefringence for high contrast and color purity, low haze high transmission for minimal light loss to reduce power consumption and increased brightness. The films have a high degree of flatness, good gas barrier properties, chemical resistance, scratch resistance and dimensional stability. The thermosetting acrylic composition has a mixture of polymerizable acrylates including at least one multifunctional acrylic monomer, at least one multifunctional acrylic oligomer and a bimodal polymerization initiator composition comprising a mixture of either a photopolymerization initiator or a low temperature which initiators polymerization at a temperature of from about 40 DEG C to about 120 DEG C; plus a high temperature thermal polymerization initiator which initiates polymerization or cross-linking of the acrylates and pre-polymerized acrylates at a temperature of from about 180 DEG C or more.
